I would much rather have a purpose than to waste my time enjoying my insignificant, temporary self. You may say: "Helping people is a purpose." It might be. But what happens when you save someone's life only to see that person get hit by a 16-wheeler? What happens when a million people willingly dedicate and even sacrifice their lives for the welfare of the world's children, the future, only for it all to go up in flames when the world ends suddenly?

Whatever we do must be done for eternity. If not, eventually it will be like it never happened at all. I do not want to "enjoy myself", like most atheists do, I want to do something that will echo for all eternity. Is anything eternal? Can such a thing be done?

If not, I have no reason to go on living and I will end it as soon as the answer is confirmed.

I am so nihilistic that I do not even get simple pleasures. Pleasure itself is painful to me.

What would it matter if I'm wasting my life thinking about wasting my life? I'm not going to remember wasting it! All is @#$%, see?

When you realize that this life is all you will ever have, you'll find that you truly appreciate what you have precisely because it is so fleeting. No, NOTHING is eternal. The sun will go supernova someday and the Earth will cease to exist, so whatever great deed or monument you set up for yourself will be destroyed, anyway. If you don't want to enjoy yourself, then don't! There are plenty of ways to be miserable.

Man, that has happened FOUR TIMES in the last couple of weeks! I swear, I am NOT saving that guy's life any more.

See my above statement re: the solar system going foom. It's all going to end, so what? Do what you can do anyway...or not, whatever you choose. I don't worry about such things, I do what I can here and now because there is no evidence of an afterlife that I can look forward to.

i agree. your a hardcore nihilist imo. i would end my life too, but satisfying those simple pleasures while i still have consciousness is not worth taking away just because i know it will be forgotten one day.

im saying the only thing worth doing, is that which satisfies you. you may never get an other chance, which is why I'll never commit suicide. even in pain and suffering. even without hope, because you just never know. why waste your consciousness? you can if you want. it wold make no difference to me. people do it every day, and i dont care. maybe i will do small charities and "good" acts. i guess, even as a nihilist atheist, "good" acts makes my environment and surroundings more pleasant. so why not. i dont know I'm rambling though...

the best cure to extreme nihilism is very hard drugs. seriously, if you cannot escape it, then i honestly suggest LSD or cocaine.

Well, you have some valid points, but to each his own. I enjoy living my life and I have found my purpose, just like you can find yours. I think that it is far better to find yourself than have someone "find you" for you.

You assume athiests aren't humanitarians? I respect agnostic or athiest social workers far more than religious ones, because they aren't doing it to appease their diety in the hopes of rewards later on; they glean the reward of helping people now.

Well, let's turn that around: what if there ISN'T an afterlife and a heaven or whatever? Haven't you wasted your LIFE?
