First, if you haven't been applying products to damp hair, I'd recommend doing so. This helps "seal in" the moisture.

If your hair does not become softer or more pliable with oils or pomades such as olive oil or shea butter, you should try oil free moisturizers such as pure vegetable glycerin or aloe vera juice.

There are also oil free commercial products - I use Elucence shampoo, and this is a great start for moisture and softness for me. Greg Juice from Oyin Handmade is also an excellent oil free moisturizer.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but *drinking* water can make a big difference in your skin and hair.

Hope this helps, Kaya

Heat Treatments.

You take a very good conditioner like Dove's Intense Moisture or several you like. Suave and Vo5 are good. Anyway you apply them all down your hair from your ears down. Then you put a shower cap on and hold a blowdry or put a heating pad over the cap for awhile. You can do it severa times a week for 20-25 minutes or once a week for like an hour. It keeps your hair moisturized.

Also shampoo is really drying so before you shampoo put conditioner all down your lenght and only apply the shampoo to your scalp area. That is where most of the oil and dirtyness is.

Here are some recipes.

• Mix 1 tablespoon Honey and any type of vegetable oil. Distribute mixture evenly all over the hair.

• Coat dry hair with mayonnaise, once finished cover with a plastic shower cap and leave on for 10-20 minutes

• Apply olive oil all over your hair. Cover with a plastic bag and let it stay for 20 minutes. For extra conditioning take a warm shower while waiting. The heat will help the oil work to its maximum potential.

• Beat one egg, add 3 tablespoons of water and apply to scalp
and hair.

This applies to all recipes: Once you are done waiting for the natural ingredients to work their magic wash, rinse, and style hair as usual.
