tried to use debit card today to get cash. Would not work.
I can still use it to buy things at the store. Is the card bad??

In addition to the answer already provided which is quite likely the correct answer, it is also possible that your bank had a hiccup with their debit card processing system. I had a problem a few weeks ago when I went to withdraw money from an ATM and it turned out that, due to some technological snafu, my bank had managed to inadvertently cancel a large number of cards. They issued me a temporary ATM card while they sent me a replacement in the mail. No harm done, just a little inconvenience that I could manage.

You are probably over your limit. Most debit cards have a maximum amount of money you can withdrawl at an ATM. It is a security feature incase it is stolen. Also I believe that limit is different from the limit on Point of Sale transactions (buying things at a store).
