I brought a pomerian pup yesterday, he is 40 days old. He's showing no interest in having the milk I m offering. I made him drink milk with a dropper, bcoz i felt he is too young to drink by the bowl. Would that be the case? Also he's vomitted this morning shortly after having milk. He's very lethargic & is sleeping all the time. Today is a holiday so no doctor will be available. Please help. Also tell me if i should dilute the milk to feed him.

Toy breeds shouldn't be sold until they are 12 weeks 40 days is only 5 and 3/4 weeks. In fact many states are changing laws so all puppies should not be sold until 8 weeks including large breeds. So expect to be weaning him and let him sleep puppies that young sleep a lot. You can put some cooked egg yokes in his milk for some sustenance. You can also put some chicken with the egg in the blender and make him a thicker meal. At times with toys weaning when I need some quick food I will open a can of mighty dog that is a ground up meal variety. So I like to keep that on hand in a pinch. Keep him in a place where he feels safe and can sleep. He is just a growing baby and they do sleep a lot.

For those that think puppies don't eat cows milk. Puppies don't take cow's milk before about 3 and 1/2 weeks. Before that age goats milk or esblac should be used. After 4and 1/2 weeks cow's milk is fine.

Hi there I'm a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Kennel Manager. In all honesty I would say that pups really shouldn't leave there mothers until till they are at least eight weeks old. You are going to have to get him some formula from the vet or try some plain oatmeal watered down with warm milk if hes lethargic hes proably dehyderated you need the vet to check him over to make sure he doesn't need IV fluids you had the right idea with the eye droper other wise use a small baby bottle with lukewarm milk you dont have an 24/7 emergency vet or animal hospital of on call vet number in your area.

You need to take that puppy back. He's not old enough to be away from his mom yet.

By milk I'm assuming you mean cow's milk. This has no nutritional value for your puppy.

He is likely very lethargic and sleeping all the time because he hasn't eaten anything of value in the last 24-48 hours. A very dangerous thing for small breeds, especially pups.

Get that pup to an ER vet NOW. All vets have after hours/holiday numbers and you need to call one right away.

If the puppy gets release from the vet right away it NEEDS TO GO BACK TO MOM. For at least another 4 weeks.

If you don't get this puppy to the vet like, NOW, you may very well have a dead pup by Monday, if not sooner.

I don't know a lot about dogs, but he may be sick. Don't force him to eat, because that may make it worse. He could also just be under stress. I know that it is normal with a puppy to not eat when he comes to a new home.

Give him another day and if he still does not seem right, take him to the vet. Even if he is feeling better, it is always a good idea to take a new dog to the vet just to check on them.

Also, stop giving him milk, just give him water. I do not know if you are doing this or not, but make sure that when you give him his food, that you soak it in warm water for about 5-10 minutes, and do not over feed him. Also, see if the food you are giving him is the food he has been getting. I know that switching a dog off from food to food can cause vomiting, especially if it is an abrupt change.

Good luck, i hope i helped!

What was the person feeding the pup before you brought it home. You do not give a puppy milk. Didn't you read up on the dog before getting it. You are making the poor thing sick. CALL the person you got dog from and only feed him what they did. Give him water to drink out of a bowl. Then take to vet Monday. Please buy a book on pomerian pups so you know what your doing!!!!!!!!

A 40 day old pup is a little young to be away from mom anyway. You should wait unti they are 8-10 weeks before adopting. I hope you are using a PUPPY MILK replacer and NOT regular milk. Milk can cause upset(vomiting, diarrhea) . I would get your puppy into a vet ASAP before it becomes dehydrated. Your puppy could have parvo, intestinal parasites or just be sick from the milk

hes only 5 weeks old most breeders dont let there pups go until 8 weeks so she my be a bit more home sick but instead of milk try puppy formula u can get it at any pet store, or try water and some watered down kibble i recommend sciencediet and being she is so young she my miss her family so try finding a small stuffed animal with a voice box take out the back and put in a small ticking clock it reminds him of moms heart

Since it's the holidays, Try looking around for foster dogs so they can feed your dog with actual milk. Well, untill you can go to the vet. But also try feeding him from a bowl. Also your could buy some regular dog food and put it in the milk to let it sog so he dosen't have to chew hard.

Perhaps your puppy is still adjusting to the new surroundings, I had a dog once and my mother bought it from another person and it took some time for the dog to eat and do it's normal things.

Try mushing some water and dog food and try enticing the puppy to eat.

The best thing would be: Bring your puppy to the vet ASAP.

Good Luck!

I dont know but my puppy does that too.
After he drinks milk he vomits, so I decide not to give him anymore milk, and took him to the doctor about a week ago.
