Hi, I am a kid, and I worry a lot. I don't mean a little, I mean ALOT! I will worry about things that don't concern me. I will get panic attacks, or what I think are panic attacks. I will start breathing very fast and I will start crying. I will get really hot and I will just be really shaky. I am very depressed, and I don't know what to do. I worry about everything and don't know how to stop worrying!!!

Please don't say I have to go to the Emergency Room! I hope not, or a mental hospital. I don't know if it is really panic attacks, but I just would like to know how to tell my parents. My parents are very understanding. Most of the time, I have them when I am scared about something.

Buddy, first of calm down, there is nothing wrong that cannot be fixed. If you are uncomfortable talking to your parents about this, go to your school councilor and talk to them. They are professionals and will keep your conversation confidential. You need to work out what is going on and the sooner the better. The bottom line is that you will be OK, just go talk to some one now and get the proper help.

There's a lot of advice on here about how to tell an adult (your parents would WANT to know, because they love you and want you to be happy). So here are some tips to get you thru the anxiety in the meantime:

Listen to relaxing music or environment type CD's (ocean waves for example).

Take a hot shower or better yet, a bath

Get some exercise, it really helps! Go for a walk, shovel some snow, whatever.

Pet your dog or cat, if you have one.

Keep warm, try putting on warmer clothes.

AVOID CAFFEINE read the back of the pop can to see if there is caffeine. Colas Mt. Dew and probably Dr. Pepper have caffeine. Also, some over the counter meds like sudafed or nyquil can cause agitation in kids (and adults-I get really anxious!) so pay attention to that. I think benadryl is a culprit here, too. Allergy prescriptions?

Spend extra time talking to friends and doing stuff that distracts you. keep busy with things that occupy your mind, like reading a novel, doing a puzzle, etc.

All the best!! I hope some of these tips will help you until your folks can do soemthing for you!

I'm not a doctor, but people who have "Generalized Anxiety Disorder" talk about feeling the same way. Oftentimes this runs in the family so it's very possible that one of your parents or another relative has had to deal with this themselves in the past.

You're not crazy...really! You're not the first person to feel like this, and you won't be the last. It's a shame you have to feel so miserable when there's help out there. You've taken a great first step. Now take the next one and ask your parents to get you help from someone who specializes in treating anxiety disorders. If you really can't talk to your parents, try a school counselor. Life's too short - you can learn how to deal with this!

You should talk to a parent about this, and they will probably bring you to the doctor. If your parents are not understanding, talk to another adult relative who you trust, and let him or her know what is going on.

I can't recommend any medicines, even over-the-counter supplements, because you are most likely too young to take them. A doctor will know what is okay for you to take--or what other plan of action will help you.

Please, try to get someone to take you to the doctor as soon as possible. In the meantime, if there is Chamomile Tea in your house, drink a cup, it is relaxing. Also, lavender incense or candles are relaxing. You can get a book on meditation from the library, because meditation helps to clear your mind.

Feel better, and get to the doctor, however you have to do it. If it's really bad right now, ask your parent to take you to the emergency room.

I'd suggest that you tell your parents that you would really like to see a counselor and get some professional help. They sound supportive but it sounds as tho they can help get you thru an immediate episode of anxiety but perhaps not help you learn how to cope with the thoughts that lead to the anxiety. A therapist could help you a great deal and there are techniques they can teach you that will help you learn to self-soothe. There is also medication available and sometimes this is necessary particularly if anxiety runs in your family. Good Luck!

I'm guessing from your nickname that you are a Christian. If not, you can throw this one out. So, from a born-again Christian:

Take this up with your parents, your church, someone. Online does NOT need to be the only place you talk about this, and I hope that it's not.

Don't be afraid. God is bigger than all your fears, and your depression. I went through similar stuff when I was younger and again last year. But both times, God got me through it. It wasn't always fast, but He did.

God holds your entire life, and everyone else's in His hand, you don't need to worry. I know it's hard. But you are going to have to learn to trust Him in that. Once you reach that point, things will get so much easier.

I pray that God will deliver you from this mess. Meanwhile, hang in there kid. You'll make it through. You can count on that. I'm praying for you.

A lot of what you're feeling is normal.... especially since you're young and growing. Try to find something that makes you feel good - a hobby - a sport. Sometimes kids don't run around enough and end up getting anxious - and getting on medicine. Growing up is natural - and learning new things sometimes can make you feel a little nervous - it's all OK.......It's not abnormal.

What is sad is that today - just being normal - needs medication. We have illness names for everything...... You really need to 'channel' your energy - by joining a sport, reading, finding a hobby - make a model airplane - or make someone ELSE happy!

Talk to your parents first.

You need to see a doctor. There may be a physical reason for your condition. If there is not you could use some counselling.

There are drugs that will help with panic attacks depending on the cause.

If your parents cant afford the doctor you should see if your school can help.

Try seeing a doctor. If you tell them what's going on they might be able to help you by giving you ways to calm down, or giving you medicine such as an inhaler. I have panic attacks when I have to speak in public, but a friend of mine gave me some really good tips on how not to become nervous, and told me to try Yoga to help with my breathing. Plus I do have an inhaler if all else fails.

I had the same problem when I was a kid. Couldn't sleep because I would worry so much! It isn't normal for a kid to have this sort of anxiety. You should speek with a counselor, or at the least, your parents or close relative adult. There is help. Don't be embarrased to seek it.
Good luck!
