I imagine it's not much different from us. I ran into a few Canadians when I was in Ireland, and I thought they were American. They sounded more American than the people in the state I live in. They also told me quite a bit about where they were from in Canada and it almost sounded like a mini paradise. Apparently it's warmer in parts of Canada than it is in parts of the states! I'm jealous, but I suppose I could just move south. On the other hand, my state borders Canada and many people have mixed opinions. Some hate Canadians because they come down here to shop and cause chaos. Some love Canada because they can cross the border to get drunk when they turn 18. My favorite word in Canada is "about".

We Like Canada, Aee!
I've visited many areas of Canada, and still not made it to the parts I really really wish to visit.
I've been to Montreal on 3 week long visits...and despite the somewhat rude or curt manner of some of the folks from there...I still enjoyed myself... I guess everywhere has rude people...but rude folks perhaps shouldnt work in tourist related jobs :P Beautiful architecture there.
I visited Ontario City each of those times as well, and it was extremely nice! The atmosphere was festive and the city quite beautiful to look at.
Visited Vancouver Island, ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.... But I really wish to see the wilderness...the northern territories and such!
Yeah...I like Canada!
I think that not happening to see a Canadian Flag in FL was just happen-chance. Though Florida is substantially removed, so I dont think that it was a big deal...if you go to NYC however, where I grew up, you'll see loads of Canadian representation. The fact that NY is a neighboring state probably has a little to do with that.
On the subject of the negative humor and such, I think that people around the world have a tendancy to do that with any culture. Take the negative and blow it out of proportion and use that as the brunt of jokes. You wont likely hear anyone around the world making jokes that sound something like...
"hey did you hear the one about the Canadian that held the door for me, was extremely pleasant, and wished me a nice day. Wow What a winner he was. Hahaha."
Nope...it wont be funny. So, people tend to think funny is many times making fun of someone...and in order to make fun of someone you have to find a trait that you can pick on. >shrug< its no big deal in most cases. Although I do have to admit, it can be a big deal in some cases. Because, sometimes these quirks that get made fun of can become a false reality...for example...
I've grown up in NYC...people all over the country and around the world have this image of a person that is rude and can barely speak fairly proper english. Thats is hardly the typical NY'er...
But there are people I meet in my travels...and I do travel a lot (or well I used to before I became a dad)...and when or if we have enough conversation that they get around to asking where I am from they are shocked...because in their mind the image of a New Yorker was so strong, they thought it was real. And when the meet the real New Yorker, they just can barely believe it and so they say... OH But youre just different. LOL
Oh well...chalk up another on for human nature :)

I'm Canadian myself although I have travelled to the US on a number of occasions. In each of those trips, I found the American people to be polite, thoughtful and very warm-hearted overall.
Beware of forming impressions of an entire nation on the basis of some silly cartoons. As much as anyone hates to be lumped into a single derogatory category, I doubt the American people would appreciate being tarred with the same brush.
PS To anyone who says Canada is cold - yeah, it is, but the summers are just marvellous even though some places in Canada can get very hot and humid!

First off I hope you don't get too overworked about American cartoons and actually consider them as a good example of "bad media." If so, you're in for a hard time in this world. Since you brought up Florida I remember when I went to the Disney Epcot Center back in the nineties one of the few countries represented was Canada and I would consider that pretty honourable given Canada is not the most exotic (different) countries from an American point of view but they did a good job from what little I remember.
I think most Americans have a pretty good impression of Canada. It's hard not too since they're usually careful not to do anything that's likely to cause offence. Generally Canada is thought of in terms of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the maple leaf, snow, good beer, hockey, etc. I'm a Southerner but in all honesty they are sort of thought of as Yankees in some ways. Well, only they're quieter and don't emigrate in packs. In fact many of them pretend to be Canadian when they go abroad and you know they say imitation is the purest form of flattery. Also the expression "Don't shoot I'm a Canadian comes to mind."
P.S. Where I'm from Florida is boring, Canada (esp. the snow) is beautiful

Good question. I never really thought about it before. Personally, I have nothing against Canada, and I don't think many Americans really do either. Just somewhere along the way, Canada became a punch-line to a joke, and it never stopped. Most Americans feel that they live in the greatest country in the world, and as a result, kind of look down on other countries. When you think about it, its sort of wierd that we would make fun of a country that really isn't that different from our own.
Hey, if I couldn't live in the U.S.A., I'd want to live in Canada. And sorry about South Park. Its pretty rough on you guys.

I've never been to Canada so I won't judge. I have met a lot of nice Canadians though. You shouldn't worry too much about what you see on television....they may talk bad about Canada, but trust me, they talk a lot worse about us Americans.

I love Canada!!! Who wouldn't?! And to the guy who said Canada is like "that wimpy, nerdy kid who sat in the front of the class in high school" when you want to put it like that then i have to say that the US is like that big dumb jock in high school who had way to big an ego. Anyways shaheensta, if Americans are pissing you off then maybe you should watch Rick Mercer talks to Americans. He's a very funny Canadian that shows you how much the Americans really know about Canada. He managed to convince some people that our Prime Minister is Tim Horton. I know not all Americans are like this but quite a few need a reality check..

I am from Oklahoma, and I have no particular gripe about or with Canada. I am told it is a beautiful country. I am sure I would find the winters a problem (long and very cold). I regret that there is friction between some Americans and some Canadiens. I am sure I would get along just fine with most of you.
