Is it awful getting your teeth pulled and having to wear dentures?

Not if you have a good dentist. Dentures take some getting used to, but are just annoying at first - and you have to learn how to eat some foods again.
I use just a tiny droplet of polygrip on both the right and left side of mine and they hold them in place for about 16 hours.
As to having the teeth pulled, anaesthesia and gas today make it completely painless. The biggest fear I have always had is not getting enough anaestesia. My dentist understands this and makes sure I am comfortable when I am with him. I still have a few natural teeth and these still require maintenance.

My boss has this saying.....
"The worst tooth in your mouth is better than any denture tooth"
Top full dentures are much easier to wear as they cover the roof of your mouth and have more to hold on too. Bottom full dentures should be avoided like the plague. The bottom ones are the ones that usually fly across the room. If you need to have teeth removed, try your best to hold on to at least the 2 bottom eye teeth. they have the longest roots and will anchor the denture to help keep it in place. You can also get something called an implant supported denture, but its very expensive (about $6000)
Try to keep as many of your own teeth as possible. With todays dental materials and techniques, you should be able to keep your teeth for life.

It is not the most pleasant experience you will ever have but if you suffer from dental disease this may be the right answer. As with any medical or dental procedure there are pros and cons. Dentures will never be as good as healthy natural teeth but they can be a suitable substitute. You have to have realistic expectations as well as a realistic and positive outlook.
There will be a significant period of adjustment to get used to them. You will have to get your mind set on getting past the negative stereotypes that people who wear dentures are often confronted with and know that you are doing this to make yourself better and healthier.

I couldn't imagine getting all of my teeth pulled, I am a grandma but luckily I have taken good care of my teeth, I have all of them!

they don't do that much any more, they restore the tooth and put a crown (cap) on it or pull it if it's beyond help and put in a implant
