I just got braces, and yes, I can confirm that they are rather sharp (why? whyyyyy???). You can kiss, but be really careful, and make sure he doesn't cross your braces or it might cut him. If you're really concerned, just get Invisalign.
The HIV thing probably only refers to the fact that you may get cut with braces (nothing big or severe, you may not even feel it.) And if your partner also has a cut and has HIV, then it may get transmitted that way or vice versa if you were infected.

I highly doubt he will get cut. I french kissed a boy who had braces and I didn't get a cut or anything. And the only way either of you could get AIDS is if he does get a cut and he bleeds and the blood touches you, or if you guys have sex and he has AIDS. You cannot get AIDS from saliva.

I just got my braces off not to long ago. my mouth got sooo cut up it wasn't funny. also something about the metal makes your lips really dry and they crack and bleed. (i know not a very pretty picture.) if you have a cut in your mouth (which WILL happen) and he has a cut there is a chance that blood could be transferred from him to you or vise versa. There is the possibility of contracting something like that. no one can tell you what to do or how to take care of yourself. just be careful and think things through!!! kissing with open cuts in your mouth is like having unprotected sex.

just be careful. HIV wont just develop if you accidently get a cut, unless one of you is positive. also just take things slow, if you guys are patient everything will work out.

Tell him not to lick your teeth?
I think he'll be very fine as long as he sticks with tongue-to-tongue action.
And if neither of you have any diseases than you should be fine and dandy either way.

Braces don't make it any easier for you to contract aids through kissing. Aand they aren't really that sharp actually, your boyfriend won't get cut unless...I dunno he has a extremely sensitive tongue maybe?
