My family just bought a live chicken at a roadside farm and we were planning to eat it. Only I'm not sure the steps I should take in order to commence the slaughter and plucking. Can anyone provide steps to do this?

BTW, Libturd PETA members need not answer...

First have a couple of sharp knives,a meat cleaver or hatchet & scissors handy. Make sure to have some scalding water in a bucket (about 150-180 degrees F). Grab the chicken by the legs with one hand & place its head on a chopping block or cutting board. Then hold the chicken at the base of the wings & use the meat cleaver or hatchet & cut its head off. You'll have to hang the bird upside down for a few minutes & let all of the blood out! As soon as the blood has quit coming out,dip the chicken by holding the feet into the scalding water, but don't hold it in too long or you'll start cooking it. Dip it & pull it out & pull the feathers off! It may take you awhile, but it will 'get her done'! After you have most if not all the feathers off, you'll need your sharp scissors to cut the oil bag off & open the body cavity. You cut it open by the anal opening & but don't cut the intestines. Cut a hole big enough to pull the viscera completely out of the body cavity. Wear some surgical gloves,as chickens have all types of little bacteria living inside them that can irritate your skin. Slide your hand down inside the chicken and gently remove the organs & viscera. Be careful not to squeeze any of them as the gall bladder will burst & contaminate the inside of the chicken. The intestines can also burst & contaminate the meat & or skin! After you have removed the organs & viscera wash the entire chicken inside & out in cold running clean water. Then after you are sure all the blood is drained out & all the organs & viscera are out,cut the feet off at the hocks or knees. If there are more little pin feathers you can usually pull these out with your fingernails or a pair of pliers. Cook it until the internal temperature is at least 165 degrees F.

Hi Godbless,
You will have to kill it first, might get a bit miffed if you ask it
to go in the oven on its own.
Seriously hold it under one arm pull and twist neck, swiftly
though and use a bit of force good clean pull and twist you
will be doing it know favours being squeamish. When plucking
always pluck toward the head, when clean cut remove insides
do this outside as it can pong a bit specially if it has been free-
ranged. Keep in fridge for 24 hrs to allow meat to firm ......
That's it, unleash your gourmet skills and bon appetite.

you have to cut the neck off, throw it in hot water to get the feathers off (plucking it after) . ofcourse you know you have to clean it by cutting it up and throwing away the grimy parts . you cut the legs off or cook them if you like. actually just writing this makes me want to be a vegetarian and join PETA. LOL

My hubby states the obvious. You have to chop it's head off first. Hang it upside down to drain the blood. Pluck it. Cook it. I am sure it is actually a little more involved then that, but I am not sure.

First you snap the neck of the chicken( I know it is painful mentally that you have to kill it ). Then take all the feathers of it. Finally open it and take the stuff that you are not supposed to eat. Then cook it like you would normally do.

Be careful when you chop the head off. When I was a kid my neighbors chopped the heads off there chickens and one of them started chasing my little brother all over the yard with it's head cut off. He was screaming bloody murder. This is true, I kid you not.

first you chop off its head. then holding it by the feet you dip it in boiling water, this helps in plucking feathers. pluck feathers . chop off feet . gut it remove organs from it then cook the chicken.
