Maybe it wasnt clear, sorry

Well My father in law and me only got one thing in common, that is (you guessed it) drinking. If we dont drink when we two are alone, we can hardly say anything to each other. its uncomfortable? and when we are drinking we are friends.

Is this alright? or anybody experience something similar in their lifes with their parents or other relatives?

the thing about "drinking buddies"....when one of you quits drinking, you don't have anything at all in common anymore, as you said.

healthier if you both take up golf or something.

It sounds like one of you might have a drinking problem. It might not be too bad yet, but this tends to get worse if you indulge it. Which of you the one that has to drink to get along?
