I'm selling my car and wonder what would happen if someone damages my car when testing it. Is there a standard form you could have them sign before test driving it? What are my options?

Your options are to claim it on your insurance, or to not claim it on your insurance. If someone told me he/she wanted to hold me totally responsible for a vehicle he/she was trying to sell me, I wouldn't take it for a drive, and I would never buy a car without a test drive.
All right, for those of you that think the test driver should give you his/her insurance card, I ask this. If I am buying a car because I don't have a car at the time, HOW WOULD I HAVE CAR INSURANCE? If you want your car, which you are trying to sell, insured while you are trying to sell it, you have insurance on it. Taking my driver licence information doesn't protect you against an accident I may have, but it will protect you against a photo-radar ticket I may get while driving your car on that test drive.

Check with your insurance company. There may be special provisions in your coverage, or maybe a short-term liability clause that could be added until the car is sold.

I'm pretty sure most policies would cover the vehicle the same as if you had loaned it to a trusted family member (spouse or whoever) who took it out and wrecked it. It may even be that the person test-driving the car would be responsible through their own insurance company (assuming they have full coverage). But please verify this with your specific policy and agent!

Do what the dealerships do -- get a copy of their drivers license and insurance card (THEIR insurance card) and if they do not have auto insurance already, do not let them drive that car unless you're willing to accept the responsiblity of them wrecking it (and accepting responsibilty for any damage they do to someone else's property).

First you check to see if they have auto insurance...most states require an umbrella ins policy if you will be driving.

Verify that the test driver has it.

Once wrecked, give your auto ins company his ir her ins policy number, they should go after her insurance for the damages she created.

Yeah you probably should get a form for them, that lets them know that if they crash drive it during test drive you have the right to sue them or whatever.

the person who drove it and there insurance has to cover it... Hopefully they have insurance to cover there damages the problem with your vehicle though is if you dont have insurance that allows anyone to drive your car then you might be sol... but hopefully you have insurance that lets anyone drive it and then the person who drove it should be responsible under there insurance has to cover the damage...

Get their insurance card from them and hold it, check to make sure they have a valid drivers license. Copy the number.
The dealerships do this also, why shouldn't you
