First of all, not all Christians have come to the same conclusions when it comes to the nature of God, Jesus Christ, the story of creation, how to interpret the Bible, the role of Satan, the definition of Hell, whether or not your salvation is permanent or if you must work to keep it intact, original sin, the Second Coming, the relevance of the apocalypse story in Revelation ....
We just all happened to agree that there is a God and that Jesus Christ is his son, who was born, crucified and resurrected so that we might have salvation from our sins. That is the important part. The rest of it is something we should determine from studying the Bible and seeking answers from God.
I've seen many Atheists that claim that their only binding thread to other Atheists is the fact that they reject the existence of all deities. In a way, Christianity is much the same. Of course, we have more people that try to tell you what you should think ... but true Christians know to seek God's approval, not man's.
There are many Christians who are quite capable of thinking for themselves and drawing their own conclusions. Do a little background research before being so general, next time.

Hey, play nice guys, don't generalize that way. We are not all fundies or even mainstream. I do a lot of independent thinking myself thank you, And would be in complete agreeement with few if any of my church friends.
I'm not oblivious to the reason for the sterotype. There are a lot of "for the bible tells me so sheep" Just remember that that is not the whole of christianity. The "thinkers" I know are more reserved in jundgement. Due to independent thought we are not a unified force (like the often loud and overzealous Southern Baptist convention that you may be more aware of)
BTW I may present my ideas for consideration but I wont push it on you or shun you if you have differnt views. If God lets you have freewill and doesnt force himself on you, why in the world would I try to do it.

I'm an atheist, and while I've met plenty of Christians who don't think for themselves, I've met plenty who do. Religion is just a way of expressing what they feel, and as long as their religion doesn't harm anyone and doesn't lead them to hold negative opinions of others its as good a way as any of interpreting the world. Believing in the same things promotes community and lots of people become better through support of a community, whether its based on something that's true or not.
Us atheists don't have it all figured out either, so meh. : P

Why dont you ask atheists why they all think the same about God, Darwin, monkeys, evolution???
People have free will you know, people who tend to have the same belief on what they think is right form a society. Individual Christians think for themselves TOO!!! They choose whom to marry, where to live, what to eat, etc.!

Human beings have freewill. With that freewill we CHOOSE what we believe. We think for ourselves, just as you think for yourself. Many Christians are raised by good parents who are showing them their faith. When they at the age of reason, they then choose whether they will follow their parents faith or find another faith. Many Christians grow up in non-religious homes, even atheistic homes, and still find their way to the truth.
As a Catholic convert I have chosen my own path. I have looked at several different denominations and even non-Christian ones. I once read Wiccan books trying to find my way. But never did I deny God...I may have been agnostic for a short time. Not knowing what I believed..
My family is not religious at all. I chose to go to church on my own freewill. I chose whether I would believe what was being said to me.
We have a right to think for ourselves.
May the Peace of Christ be with you

Probably because there is 1 true God that is guiding us and answering our prayers and REVEALING truth to us, not leaving us to make it up as we go along.
Why did Americans come up with the idea of freedom and write it into the constitution? Cant we all think for ourselves? What are we? Just dumb sheep that like freedom and prosperity?

Why are all Muslims terrorists?
Why are all atheists egotistical?
Why are all blah blah blah.....
You lose me with the generalization.
They all follow a common belief system -- of course they have similar beliefs.
Some are not capable of thinking of themselves. Most are. The same is true of all other groups.

I perceive that you have more of a "problem" with Christians living life for God than you do for yourself.
It is difficult for you to understand that Christians gain wisdom by asking God than attain it through other means.
Since God's wisdom is limitless, it is wise and intellectual to ask God for wisdom and knowledge.

I think you need to rephrase your question, why do christians think for themselves?God gives us a free choice, choose life or death....we chose life, and you can to.You may wonder, inspite of the many criticisms, why we still stand sure...it is because we have a belief,a hope, and confidence in whom we serve.....and ...christ has already taken over the source of thinking...our minds...we gave it up freely.....ur welcome to join...

well smart guy, its because TRUTH DOESN'T CHANGE WITH OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We believe in the ONE and ONLY God who doesn't change. So yes, we think for ourselves and when you accept the truth about God, you will see that you have much in common with Christians!!!!!
TRUTH IS TRUTH, THINKING WON'T CHANGE TRUTH!
Next time you see a stop sign, will it disappear just because you want to think for yourself and believe it isn't there? No, the sign will be there, it will say STOP and your thoughts won't change that one bit. Your opinion won't matter, it will still be a stop sign and it will still be there.TRUTH doesn't change just because you refuse to believe.
