It sounds like you are doing everything right to me. That is about when my scabs started coming off all my tattoos. Just be sure to keep with your after care product as you artist instructed and don't pick the scabs. You might want to apply the ointment more often if it starts to itch bad.
Regarding tattoo goo, I have used this product and it does not contain petroleum. I just looked up the ingredients to be sure - don't know where D gets her info from.
Also, my artist does not use A & D because it contains both petroleum and lanolin so bad for tattoos. It does not contain Zinc.
Here is ingredient listing:
Active Ingredients: Contains: Petrolatum (53.4% - Skin Protectant), Lanolin (15.5% - Skin Protectant)
Inactive Ingredients: Cod Liver Oil (contains Vitamin A & Vitamin D), Fragrance, Light Mineral Oil, Microcrystalline Wax, Paraffin

Vit E oil would not be the aftercare of choice but if it has worked for you thus far stick to it. Its perfectly normal.
DO NOT use tattoo goo (its junk) its a petroleum product like neosprin (also bad) , and a&D contains a zinc oxide that will fade your tattoo while healing. STICK TO WHAT IS WORKING FOR YOU.
Whatever you do DONT pick the scab. The urge to "help" it that last little way off must be resisted. IF it comes off early you risk pulling colour out and needing a touchup.

yeah that's normal! just don't pick them off, let them fall off on their own. if you pick at them you could run a risk of taking some of the ink out of it and when it heals it will look horrible! The best thing you should use for your skin is A&D ointment. Vitamins A&D both help with healing your skin!

yes but dont pull it off as some of the ink could come with it! My tats do it fro day 3-10 then they are healed! Dont worry just keep it moist with vitamine e and if its getting itcy put a bit more cream on it.
