Yes -- if you keep your body fueled throughout the day by eating 6 small healthy meals, you will have more energy and you are less likely to overeat at any meal. Three med. to large sized meals are OK - and better than eating only 1 or 2, but when the body adapts to 6 small meals, it becomes more efficient and will release stored fats because it knows more nutrition is on it's way soon.

Yes, it is healthier to eat small amouts of food throughout the whole day rather than 3 big meals. It doesn't have to be 6 exactly, 4 meals, rather than 3 (as long as the 4 meals has less food per meal than the 3 meals) is better.

eating smaller meals reduces the risk of overeating at night time. for the non-obese individual the resting metabolic rate is increased from the digestion of foods. proteins have the highest thermogenic effect then fats then carbs. the body also doesn't have the storage capacity of many nutrients, eating smaller meals over the course of the day allows the body to utilize nutrients more effectively. eating smaller meals will also have an effect on serum insulin levels when feeding. the body does not have to release as much insulin with smaller meals, this decreases the potential for fat storage
