The two cars are excellent choices, but I vote for the BMW.
The BMW 3 series is the best small sedan in the road. If you want proof look at Consumer Reports or Car and Drive.
I have a X-3, I'm very happy with the Car-Sub. The resale value of both car are good but in the end the German tradition of the BMW win.

Both cars are great, however i would definitely go with the Lexus because of one reason, it is one of the most reliable brand out there. It is much more reliable compared to the BMW and the cost to maintain the Lexus is slightly lowered than the BMW. I drive a Lexus IS, and I have to say, its the best car ever, 50k miles on it, and no problem whatsoever, just had to bring the car in for routine checkups. The BMW gets 19/28 while the Lexus gets 22/29, a bit better on gas mileage, and the ride quality are about the same, some people say the Lexus might feel more sportier while the BMW gives you a more comfortable yet lacking feel. You should definitely do some research and test drive to see which you like more. Both are good, but I give the edge to the Lexus IS.

For the amount of money to fully load the IS250, you can only get a 328xi with just automatic. Lexus dealers are more willing to discount their cars than BMW. BMW does perform better, however. So the bottom line is Lexus for luxury, BMW for performance. By the way, the only good deal you can get for the BMW is leasing.

"Like omigosh, you should totally buy the one that's super-duper cute!"
Give me a break.... thanks for making women look that much better. And in case you didn't know, BMWs are pretty quick too...
Now onto the question...
I had my heart set on getting a BMW 330i... went to drive one and fell in love. The thing handles like a dream and it is everything you would expect from the "ultimate driving machine". We had older Beemers when I was growing up and we always had a great experience with them. In fact, we had an '84 528 that I would race my dad in with my '90 Toyota Supra and he would kick my ***!! I would beat him off the line no problem, but once he get 3rd gear, it was all over. BMWs are amazing cars.
I talked to my friend who is the service manager at Toyota and told him about my decision to get the 330i. Although he loved the car as well, he suggested I look into an IS300... I was already somewhat familiar with them because once I found out it had the Supra engine in it, I was hooked haha! I drove it, and everything about it was comparable to the BMW, but for a lot less.
I've had my IS for a little over a year now and I absolutely love it. They've got a really distinct look with that slanted hood (my favourite thing, other than the tail lights!). The IS is fast, handles well, and looks great. And while, yes, there's no BMW emblem on the hood... I'm pretty satisfied having a Lexus emblem there.
Also, I haven't had any major issues with my Lexus, but I know maintenance is going to be much cheaper than on a Beemer... though trying to do anything yourself is pretty difficult-- took me an hour to change the bulb above the license plate!! It was impossible to get to haha!
Anyway, good luck. I know I probably wasn't a great help since I don't have any experience with the '07 models, but... Either way, they are both great cars.

It all depends on your taste. If you are looking for great handling and European design, than the BMW 328xi is your choice. It is a pretty tough vehicle. If refinement, comfort, good gas mileage, high technology gadgets, and reliability means a lot to you, than you should go with the IS250 AWD.

I like the Lexus. I own an IS 350 and it's a great vehicle for cheaper than BMW. You also get treated very well by Lexus when you own one of their vehicles. Their cars are also very cheap to own and will last you more than a decade.

that BMW is going to start having issues quickly and could smash the bank to maintain on the line. i don't understand plenty related to the reliability of the Lexus, yet BMWs are fairly costly to maintain. My relatives is on their 0.33 3 sequence (1996 328ci, 1999 328i, 2006 330i). it variety of feels to be between $1000 and $2500 each and each time the older 2 bypass interior the keep. The 06 is decrease than guarantee so we don't could desire to hassle approximately it. i've got consistently enjoyed the look of the Lexus IS so i could bypass with that.
