Lady Luck, if you can drink regular colas with caffeine, I bet it is the Aspartame sugar replacement that is the cause of the problem. I do not recall where I read this, but I believe that Aspartame, along with aluminium cans, has been linked to certain mind deterioration disease in certain people (like Altimers [SP- for spelling]). I have had similar experiences with this too- I'm diabetic but I find that drinking regular pop or drinks with regular sugar and taking insulin reduces the chances that I feel lousy. And, again, I do not want to denounce pop with Aspartame- it may only cause this to happen in certain people like you and myself, but may not have any effect on other people.

When your body is used to getting caffeine every day, and then you go without it, you will get headaches because of caffeine withdrawl. If you don't want to drink diet coke anymore, then it will take a few days before the headaches go away permanently. Diet coke is not harmful. Many people who have diabetes drink it because it has no sugar in it (although it has sugar substitutes in it, which is what makes it sweet). If you are watching your weight, it is better to drink zero calorie drinks like diet coke. You should try drinking caffeine free diet Pepsi or coke to help avoid the headaches.

I would say since you probally wont let go of the diet coke, instead drink caffeine free diet coke...taste the same. Either way the fake sugar isnt good for you. You would be better off drinking a normal soda. Also whenever I drink a diet soda I put ice in it and let it melt so it waters it down. Overall I'd say drink your diet coke, but switch to caffeine free, and drink some water before and after you drink it. That will keep you hydrated! Good luck.

Well, if you are drinking diet coke made in the early 1920's (back when Coke contained Coke) then yes I would say it is very addictive :-p On a serious note, are you drinking caffeinated diet coke or decaf? The only thing I could see that may be causing the headaches would be the issue of caffeine.....You may try drinking coffee instead of your diet coke, see if this gets rid of the headaches.....

It's the lack of caffeine that's giving you a headache. Drinking a lot of soda can also reduce bone density. It's probably a good idea to start slowly weaning yourself off of all the diet coke.

Well, I wouldn't drink it all day. One a day is OK - but you need to get some good, clean water into your system.
The headaches probably are due to dehydration because you are drinking too much carbonated, caffienated soda. The aspartame (artificial sweetner in diet coke) isn't good for you either. It has been linked to all sorts of health problems. Try to wean yourself off of it soon.

Many people are alergic to aspertame (the artificial sweetener used) and headaches are a byproduct.
Try seltzer water for a non-sweetened, refreshing drink. Just add a slice of lemon, a squeeze of orange, or some grenadine syrup - only takes a few drops - for a really refreshing, delicious drink.

Diet Coke is not addictive. What may cause the headaches, however, would be caffiene withdrawal. Diet Coke does have caffiene, so if you drank lots of it, you might get headaches if you stopped drinking it.

You're probably addicted to the caffine. Also it is very possible that splenda in the diet coke is also giving you the bad headaches. My advice is to lay off the coke like any other addiction as much as possible. You probably should seek healthier alternatives that contain no caffine like jamba juice :D.

You get a headache because you are dehydrated. You are dehydrated because all you drink is Coke. None of it is good for you. Drink water and drop the soft drinks. Water is life's blood.
