I can change the color of the background, but i can't chage to a picture it will not let me select any picture in the list all the names have be replaced with numbers. If i click on a picture and try to set it as the background it only shows up for a few seconds when the computer is first starting up. I'm working with windows xp. Any suggestions?

I am very sorry to tell you you are a victim of adware or spyware. get thes things off by going to download.com and searching for Spybot- Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal and also HijackThis.

A lot of people got the same problems. I got the same problem too. I don't think this is a virus or spyware. I scan my computer just after updating my spyware remover, and anti virus with latest database.

I found something odd, that the item shows in background list were .BMP file. Other files, such as .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc, were not shown. This is mean that we are back to Windows 3.1 that allow only Bitmap picture files as our background picture. The problem occur after installing one of Windows update, I forgot for sure. but I am sure this problem was relating to that application.

The only solution for this problem is view the image with image viewer, righ click the image, and from popup menu, choose set as wallpaper.

Sounds like you have a virus. If that's the case, you will have to format your hard drive to make sure that all viruses are destroyed then reinstall your operating system.
