For a 9 year old, a $20 webcam will do just fine. Resolution leaves much to be desired, and she'll have a limited range (5-50 ft) for a decent picture. But as a training aid, to develop her composing eye for a low price, it's not bad.

What brands? WHat models? Do you mean like $20 cheap or $100 cheap? Those little cheap $20 ones are garbage, try to find at least $100 if you want decent pictures a lot of times you can find decent cameras on sale for a little less then $100 Here's a decent camera for a good price

We bought my son a Nikon CoolPix - very compact, easy to use, takes great pictures. It was around $150. I work for a school district, and we use this at many of the elementary schools because it is a nice size for smaller hands. It fits easily into a pocket or backpack.

I bought a $30 one for my grand daughter..it worked...but it was mostly fuzzy....then I bought one for her (6 yo) that cost about $90 with some features....she loves it....the pics are good and it's simple to use for her..not too many features for her her to get confused over.
Here's an example....http://farm1.static.flickr.com/62/221451615_9412c56ae5_o.jpg
Trust me....I had a talk after that pic.
