Vitamin Supplements has to be defined here to really address the question. I would not suggest anyone at any age take vitamin pills or capsules as sold in pharmacies or even health food stores because these all have problems.
In general, we all need to supplement our diet because the American diet is terrible and the food you buy in grocery stores have about 50% less nutrients in them than we did just 25 years ago. The processed foods people eat actually damage the DNA and can cause disease because of the junk they put in them.
Most of the foods that contain SOY or Canola and cottonseed oil are genetically engineered to help the farmers and seed manufacturers sell more products and not good for our health and even cause diseases.
The FDA or EPA are not concerned about health of our people, just are the products good enough to experiment on the masses to see if any problems pop up.
Vitamin supplements in the form of pills (whether at pharmacies or health food stores) contain Magnesium Stearate and other chemicals that are terrible for you. This product is found in all pills because it helps manufacturers produce pills faster. It completely surrounds all the ingredients in the pill and each pill contains about 5% of the total milligrams in the pill. In other words you are getting about 50 milligrams of this TRANS FAT in a 1,000 millgram tablet. This garbage inhibits the absorption of the nutrients up to 70% and inhibits the immune system. The gelatin capsules used are made from cows hooves and many contain the toxic substance Prion. These also inhibit the absorption of nutrients. Most of the pills are made by putting the ingredients in a giant press and using about 20,000 psi pressure to make them. This produces heat and destroys many of the ingredients potency. Natural vitamins have many synthetics added to help them maintain their potencies. These synthetics help you at first, but damage your DNA over a short time. Ever wonder why taking a lot of vitamins in pill form just doesn't seem to make you feel that much better?
Some companies sell powders now and that is better, but you need to know are these grade 10 nutrients? Probably not. Most use grade 1 or 2 nutrients and also use other ingredients that inhibit their combined effect.
Quality nutrients packaged properly can make huge gains and can really work. These quality ingredients can be given to anyone at any age with great results, but the quantities should be adjusted according to weight, etc.
Stay away from the following: All SOY and CANOLA products. Anything that says Vegetable Oils on it. These are most likely genetically engineered soy or canola oils. Stay away from commercial beef sold in grocery stores. This is full of omega 6 fatty acids, antibiotics, hormones, etc. Eat only beef from grass fed cattle. This is very good for you. Stay completely away from all soda drinks. They contain huge amounts of sugar (1 tsp. for each ounce) and the sugar free chemicals produce formaldahyde in your liver that damages the liver. The low pH of these drinks suppress your immune system for 3 hours after drinking and cause disease.
We all need to supplement our foods because most of us eat cooked and/or processed foods that are low in nutrients or contain those nasty synthetic vitamins.

My daughter takes supplements and she's 2! You're not too young. Keep in mind though, that you have to take supplements with food in order for them to work. If you don't they will go right through you and out in your urine.
There are different types of supplements for men and women. Talk with someone at a health food store or at GNC. They can point you in the right direction.

i always took flintstones vitamins as a kid. and if you think a regular multivitamin doesn't fit your "gender's needs" then you should think about taking a different kind.
