Yes...that's the only thing that's worked for me. If you count calories with a food & exercise log (see links below), you'll get a good feel in just a few days as to what habits are good and which are not-so-good. I haven't cut anything out of my diet completely, but there are some things that I save for a weekend treat, instead of a daily dessert.

One of the best habits you could adopt for losing weight would be to start walking or running regularly. It may seem like a chore, at first, but you'll really end up enjoying it over time. Best of luck!

I know of success stories with this approach. I have not personally tried to lose weight. Understand that any approach takes work and discipline. Good luck! Be careful as well. If you reduce portions too much, then your nutrition will suffer. Don't over-exercise. I've heard of people getting sick or worse from that. Listen to your body. If you are going to far, then slow down.

Motivation comes from strange places if you've found me. Just over two years ago I weighed 299 lbs. I started on a combination of Atkins/South beach. I did not cut out the carbs but instead of bread and pasta I ate a lot a veggies. I eat 5-6 times a day and include protein in at least 3 of them. Protein is self limiting as it causes you to feel full very quickly. I also eat 2 large salads, 1 at lunch and 1 at dinner every day. You need to make sure that you get enough roughage and vitamins via vegetables. This helps to keep you regular and satisfied. Add in dairy as calcium helps to keep your bones/muscles strong and helps your to lose weight faster. Don't forget the nuts and seeds. For snacks go back to mother nature. Berries are also high in anti oxidants and help to keep your blood sugar stable. Right now I'm at 182 and still losing. I've gone from a woman's size 22 to a misses size 16. I know that you can do anything that you put your mind to. I'm walking 5 miles a day, lifting weights several days a week, back to riding horses and even roller blading with my kids. I wish you the best of luck. GOD bless.
