Depends, sometimes it's just the context. Age and maturity has a lot to do with it also. An immature person only thinks about sex and personal sexual gratification.
But some examples about me. Went to a bar on Wednesday night (ladies night there) and only thought about sex when looking at the girls. Its like being in a flesh buffet, especially when the girls hardly wear anything and give you free lap dances. But earlier today at a support meeting there was a very beautiful woman that I am totally captivated by. I wasn't thinking about sex just about being around her, listening to her talk, and cuddling her.
So for me it has a lot to do with the particular person and situation. Also, since I have a odd situation (34 year old involuntary virgin) sex, love, and affection are foremost on my mind usually all together.

I don't if there is a logic behind your question. Guys have to think about girls in order to relate to sex. How can they think about sex without thinking about girls ecause the girls have the female organ that can provide sex. Just because they think about girls that doesn't mean whether they care about girls or not.

It's way more on the females.
There are more girls out there than girls guys are interested in. I for one have a hard time deciding which girl I like the most and which girl I should ask out. It's more about them than anything.

guys think about sex more, women are just good company for such a pleasurable activity. However if a guy is actually honestly interested in a relationship, then the girl becomes vastly more interesting as a person than sex

I honestly think about girls more than sex bc I am waiting til im married to have sex, so that might have something to do with my mind, but I think my answer is the common one.

I'm a hopeless romantic, so I think more about the girl, but when I was younger I used to think about sex more...dunno, I care about the relationship more, so I care about what's gonna last, sex won't last forever ;)
