An occupation is just a job. You can walk away from it and no big deal.

A profession means you are dedicated to what you are doing, not necessarily that particular job, but to the art. It also implies you have chosen that field and are dedicated toward improving it and yourself.

A good example is someone who does work for hire. He gets paid to take photographs, but isn't necessarily dedicated to that work. So that's an occupation.

Now the same person after hours could be doing art photography of some kind and could be doing what he does for the joy of doing it. In that case, his art is his profession.

It can be both an occupation (a job) and a profession for the same person.

If the photographer makes money from the work, it's a profession, not just an occupation. It's wayy to involved to simply be an occupation. It's a lifestyle and an art, and definitely a profession.

An occupation is a basic job that is done for money and possibly for enjoyment. It's something that keeps us busy and contributing to the lives of others as well as increasing our personal wealth.

A profession can pay the bills as well, but it implies education, expertise, and advocacy. Professionals are part of a group of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to their trade, craft, and discipline. They often belong to exclusive organizations that focus on the promotion, conservation, and progression of their career. An occupation is not likely to be as fulfilling.

My first paid job was as an assistant photographer at the St. Petersburg, Fla TImes.
It was a job. A profession, my first boss just retired from there. So I would have to say, a profession.

That all depends on who you're taking pictures for; If you take pictures just for fun and sometimes you get paid for it then it's an occupation. If you take pictures for a living like for National Geographic or Vogue Magazine , then it's a profession
