Not only does the infected dog have to be bit by a mosquito, but the heartworm larva then have to mature to the proper stage inside the mosquito to migrate to the mosquito's mouth After the larva develop to that stage, they can be transmitted to another dog.

As long as your dog is on heartworm preventatives, she wont get heartworm. In any case a mosquito would have to bite the infected dog, (assuming the heartworm microfilariae have migrated to its blood)then the mosquito has to incubate the heartworm microfilariae for 14 days at a temp above 20C at all times until they reach their third larval stage and migrate into the mosquitos proboscis where they can be transmitted to another animal through a mosquito bite only.. the heartworm larvae cannot reach the infective stage if they do not live in their intermediate host, the mosquito. Thats the only way your dog can get heartworm, since she is on preventatives she is protected anyway and there is no direct danger in interacting with an infected dog.

She'll be fine. She's on preventative, and heartworm is not spread from dog to dog contact anyway.

Heartworm works something like this:

Infected dog
Infected dog gets bitten by mosquito
Mosquito is now a carrier and flies away
Uninfected, unprotected dog gets bitten by carrier mosquito
Uninfected, unprotected dog is now infected.
Repeat

Let your dog go have some fun with others. She'll be fine.

She will be fine, heartworm is only transmitted by mosquito bites. One of my dogs had heartworm when I adopted her, and the other three remained negative. Just be sure to keep up the preventative whichever dogs she is or isn't around.

No, she will not get heartworms from the other dog. Heartworm disease can ONLY be transmitted via mosquitoes, so a mosquito would have to bite the infected dog and then bite her, but since she is on heartworm prevention, she will not get heartworm disease.

Heart worms are spread with and thru mosquitoes. Since your dog takes the preventative medication then it is OK.

You are OK too...

You have two answers as I write this. One well informed answer regarding heartworm transmission through mosquito bites, and one not so well informed answer by someone who can't even use a spellcheck. Which one do you think is more credible?

heartworm is HIGHLY contagious. and it can kill yuor pet. do not take it around an infected dog. Any Vet will tell you that no vaccination is 100% and he will not guarantee it either.
