I grew up with cats in the house and my sister has 3 in the house with my niece, and there has never been a problem. However, just to be safe put the cat in a different room or close the door to keep the cat out when your baby is sleeping. Cats don't "take away the baby's breath" as some people put it. But they do sleep as they would with other cats. I had a cat that always wanted to sleep on my chest or back..I guess it was a comfort thing. As for him chewing on the babies toys, just wash them when you see him doing it. My sister had to get a spray bottle and spray water on the cats when she would catch them trying to chew the babies toys..it would scare them and finally they quit doing it, so maybe you could try that.

Your cat is not going to hurt your baby..
Ive got a 3 year old and shes been around four cats since birth.
The cat never going around her to begin with, its like bringing another cat into the house, they wont get along, until the First cat wishes to, now yours has decided to go exploring. Depending on the size of your cat i wouldnt let it alone in a room with such a young child, as she may try to sleep with the new "cat" ( as she sees it , being so small) and could cause problems. Or if your baby moves around the cat may take it as wanting to playing and swat at her hand or foot.
Chewing on the toys and pacifier is normal, i mean they are cat toy size.
After a bit your cat will lose interest and stay out of the crib and away from the baby. Soon enough the kid will be chasing the cat and then the fun begins:)
When the baby is awake, get her and the cat together, supervised, so the cat can see its really a small person and there is nothing interesting yet.

There is an old wife's tale that a cat will get in bed with the baby and suck its air out. I actually think your cat has finally accepted the baby and is sleeping with him because hes comfortable. Don't worry about the chewing, just stick the nuks and teething rings in boiling water for a few minutes. Watch the cat and the baby for a few days and see if the cat just hangs around. If there is a problem close the door to the baby's room or make a sleeping room for the cat. My 6 year old carries the cat around like its raggedy Anne. They love each other since they kinda grew up together. Good luck.

I doubt the cat is out to hurt the child...cats don't get jealous...they are too indifferent, proved by the fact that the cat never went near the baby until now. The cat has determined that this new "thing" is there to stay and the cat is, on it's own terms showing interest in the new "thing". There are "nets" you can put over the baby's crib when the baby is sleeping to keep the cat out. But allow the cat to investigate the baby when the baby is awake, under supervision of course.

jsut give the cat more attention. my dogs got jealous when my cousins puppy visited for the day- I know a puppy and a baby are different, especailly when one is visiting and the other is staying.
my girls didn't get violent, they just got my attention and followed me around all day for a few days.
jsut show you're cat some affection and teach it which toys are the baby's and which belong to him/her.
if you're child was a bit older I'd say you should spray it with that cat/dog repelant

Pets can be unpredictable with babies, and jealousy could cause your cat to harm the baby. I would find a new home for the kitty asap. Until then, perhaps banishing kitty to the basement would at least give you peace of mind.

If you think the cat is putting your child in danger you should get rid of it, you will never forgive yourself if you wake up one moring and your child is gone over a pet...........
