I went on the internet but TMI and just want the basics as I think a close relative is showing possible symptoms so would appreciate your imput. This person will never consent to testing at least in the early onset if that is what is happening.

Do you mean "Alzheimer’s disease"?
In the early stages, the symptoms of AD may be subtle and resemble signs that people mistakenly attribute to "natural aging." Symptoms often include:
* Repeating statements
* Misplacing items
* Having trouble finding names for familiar objects
* Getting lost on familiar routes
* Personality changes
* Losing interest in things previously enjoyed
* Difficulty performing tasks that take some thought, but used to come easily, like balancing a checkbook, playing complex games (such as bridge), and learning new information or routines
Please see the web pages for more details on Alzheimer’s disease.

I'm actually working on a case study of someone with dementia and Alzheimer's. Her early signs were misplacing items frequently, often not knowing where she was, and crying for no reason. Your relative should really go see a doctor. He/she is probably facing denial and that is completely understandable. Early intervention could slow the process down. Until you can convince him/her to go get tested keep his/her mind active. Playing games such as Pictionary, Scrabble, Boggle, (any game that challenges the memory...doesnt have to be a hard game) are not only fun but will help keep the mind going. I have found some sites that I think are helpful. I know youve already looked, but take a look at some of these b/c they might help you! My grandfather also has Alzheimer's so I know what you're feeling.

Altzheimers is a very sad thing. Look for signs liking forgotting things, repeating themselves, blank stares in there face. If this person lives alone plz watch close because they could be more harm to themselves. Like putting things on to cook and forget or getting in car and driving and end up miles away from home and not know where they are.

I'm a nurse. Well there's many symptoms like memory loss, mental confusion, not able to preform self cares, forgetfulness, anger or frustration when not able to complete a tasks, and I guess simply not being their regular self. I would watch the behavior and give support as needed. People are usually very depressed and heartbroken if the person around them make light of the situation. Take care and I hope this helps.

I forgot
Really, forgetfullness Mood swings. Behavior changes. Difficulty managing money. Alzheimers is diagnosed by biopsy after death, some early detection by scanning is going on at Washington University I believe. Maybe you could check out that web site. It's difficult to tell if it's Alzheimers or dementia\. Docs go alot by history and exam.
