be extra super careful of what you eat, and make sure you get enough exercise.
if you stick to healthy portions, you'll be fine.

I think psychiatrists are starting to prescribe metformin, a diabetes drug, along with some of the neuroleptics, especially zyprexa, which has a nasty reputation. You'll have to talk to the doctor. If your psychiatrist is blowing you off on a very valid concern, then you need to find another one. You may just have to stay on the crappy med. Try crazymeds.org, I like that web site. You could really push yourself to exercise more, but hey, even people without mental illness can't seem to do that!! Good luck (i'm bipolar, and those meds make you fat, too).

You're just going to have to watch what you eat and how much or get a different med. I know it's not easy, one of my meds for that made food taste ALOT better, it sucks but you can do it if you keep your mind focused on it.
