Designs automobiles. Not simply drawing pretty pictures of what he thinks are "cool", but really understands what makes the things run. Usually this starts with a four year degree in mechanical engineering.

That is very general. Different kinds of automotive engineers will design cars, test cars, repair cars, inspect cars, crash-test cars, and all other sorts of jobs.

drink coffe, look busy, talk , play on the computer and then do a little bit of work, just like the engineers i know
