My pulley split and fell off. Or it fell off and was cut in half by the fan. In any case I need to replace it. Is it pressed on only? I don't see a bolt hole in the end of the shaft. What do I need to press another one back on? The pump seems to spin ok and I'd rather not replace the whole thing.

Thanks in advance

The old pulley is totally off. (in hunks) I'd rather not pull the pump at all... There must be away to press this on with the pump still attached..

The pulley is pressed on with no bolts or etc. holding it on except friction.

There is a piece that should still be on the pump itself that the puller should be able to grab to pull it off... as some have said, the national auto retailers rent those tools out... It can be done on car but requires removal of the fan off the water pump and removal of the radiator shroud.

There is a screw hole in the pump shaft but is kind of buried.. it's actually about 2 threads deep inside the shaft with the outside being what looks like a hex head. you will only need the screw hole to press the new pump pulley back on.

each puller is different and would recommend you consult the directions with the puller first.

as if the groove that is used to pull the pulley off is not there, you may have to take a chance in cutting the remnants off or replacing the pump.

If the pulley fell off, which I've never seen in 30 years, the new pulley needs to be pressed on. Usually the pulley is pressed on by a bolt, with a washer and nut that puts pressure on the pulley. If there is room, you can do it on the car, without pulling the pump. There is a special installer for pulleys that makes it easier, but it can be pressed on with the bolt/washer/nut set-up. Do not hammer it on! You will damage the pump and pulley.

Auto parts store sell these and hes they have to be pressed on...It is a hydraulic press. I know around here O'reillys and autozone will do this. Remove the pump and go get the pulley.......Actually a shop may do it for a small fee but the parts stores will usually do it if you buy the part there

Added: No there is no magic tool, do the job right. A puller will not pull it off as there is no place to attach the puller. You should probably just take it to the corner repair shop, be sure to tell them you want it done for free
Geez it's 2 bolts and a belt.....

If your pulley came off then the bolt that held it on broke and thats why you cant find no bolt hole....I would recommend you buy new pump, most of them bolt in to your oil tank so you might not have to buy the whole thing ...if not then buy the whole thing...you cannot beat or hammer a pulley back on...there is a special tool you buy to remove and replace pulley with

The new pulley can be installed without removing the pump. You may need to remove/relocate the fan shroud. The installer is available at parts stores for rent and at places like harbor freight tools etc....or any of the tool dealers...snap-on mac matco etc
