How do you think the other Baptist churches differ from our doctrine? I'm not putting them down, we are all Baptists and Christians, I'm just curious. Thanks. God Bless

Yes, the KJV is the only Bible I will read.

math teacher: independent does mean we don't rely on God, it means we're an independent Baptist church. Thanks for your answer though.

I'm a Southern Baptist, but I'm incredibly dependent on Christ and fellow believers. I really hate the word "fundamental" and don't like handing out tracts. I use an NIV Bible during church, an NASB/NRSV Parallel during "quiet time," and a Greek/Hebrew keyword Bible for study. Yeah, the NT is great, but I like the whole Bible.

I think the difference in the Baptists sects is presentation of the Church. Some of us are more vocal than others, and we place a different emphasis on parts of the Kingdom of God.

Well let's look at your question word by word:

Independent? No way. I am totally dependent on God. I always wondered how anyone can say they have God as the Lord of their life then say they are independent.

Fundamental? I hope not. Paul said that when he was a child he spoke as a child, but then he became a man and spoke as a man. A new believer may be described as a fundamental, but hopefully will grow spiritually beyond that level.

Soul winning? YES! That is the mission of all Christians. Now there may be some discussion concerning one person's method to present the saving knowledge of Jesus as compared to another person's method. Which person has the best method? Nobody has the BEST method. Maybe that is why Christ called that many disciples, to show that one person's method is not for everyone.

KJV? I one many versions of the Bible including KJV and study them all. Is one version better than another? As long as a person can get to know God better through it, what difference does it make as to which version it is?

New Testament Baptist? Definitely YES! But that does not mean that I totally ignore the Old Testament. After all, both of them are God's Word.

So how do I combine all that into one answer?

I am not locked in to any specific denomination any more, but I have been a member of a couple of Baptist churches and am friends with Baptists from different congregations. Your list of traits seems fine, except for the KJV part. Are you part of the King James only persuasion? I think that is an unfortunate, man made division among believers, and it doesn't take much research at all to find out that the KJV is not any clearer on the divinity of Jesus Christ than any of the other main Bibles, NIV, NASB, etc.

I am just a Christian Baptist. Jesus is my Savior. He is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. He is the Son of God. What else needs to be understood.

Never understood the others......

I was raised Baptist, and agree with your discription, except for the KJV. Nothing wrong with reading the KJV, but a lot of the words and phrases are no longer used in English, and can frankly cause confusion. Even Adrian Rogers agreed with that, though he taught out of it.

I belong to a non-denominational Christian church where the Bible is the center of the teaching. I do not follow any religion. I believe Jesus came down here to free us from religions. Otherwise He would ask us to be Jews.

I like NKJ. I know that KJV is more accurate, but I enjoy looking to other interpretations from time to time to get a new perspective.

Are there baptist churches that are not like that?

I am not "Baptist" - I am from another "denomination", but that pretty much describes me as well! God Bless!
