Okay, I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person so why believe in something if it doesn't make sense to me? If there is no proof after I searched near and far then why would I believe? This isn't a question of whether or not their is proof.

Point is that I find that a personal God is logically impossible. Am I to throw away my findings, surrender my brain, and have faith that something so absurd to me is true? Am I to believe the man in the alleyway that tells me he is Jesus? Am I to believe the drug addict that tells me he needs money to get gas? Am I to be gulible just because someone says I should?

What about the fact that everyone of every religion, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindui claims that their belief is proven and the right one? Christians can’t even get all of their stories straight; some believe in the trinity, hell, and some don’t.

Am I suppose to respect your beliefs when you tell me if I don't I will burn in hell for the rest of time?

I quite understand how you feel. It is very understandable to feel this way. Let me only respond to you by saying...DO NOT LISTEN TO THE WORD OF OTHERS! trust your own spirit and soul. The answer you seek can only be found from within you and what your inner mind tells you. It will not come from the mouth of man. I can say that you should consider your surroundings, such as the planets, flowers, trees animals humans, animals, the stars, and all the wonders of creation. Someone made them. They did not arrive by themselves. It had to be a greater being than yourself. That being or DEITY may be called by different names, but he or she or even it is still the "PRIME SOURCE" of all of our existence. Judge for yourself! and ponder what does and does not make sense to you. Think of the miracle of birth and how it has come about. We cannot do this on our own can we? There must be a higher being somewhere. People will confuse you and tell you things that they belive to be so, but is not always so. Make your own decision after careful research into the matter. Things are not always what they seem, and the written word has been changed many times through the centuries. Christians are confused these days, and that is because they are not being taught the correct things by these churches they attend. They are not being fed the proper food so to speak. They are simply being read to from a book that is inaccurate in it's word and obviously will confuse anyone. Try checking out this website...www.benutoo.com. It may help clarify somethings for you.

U said:Okay, I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person so why believe in something if it doesn't make sense to me? If there is no proof after I searched near and far then why would I believe?

How sure are you that you have searched near and far? There are many apologetics books concerning this and books on God's existence using philosophical and logical reasoning. One of the simpler proofs is called Quinquae Viae but there are in fact MANY more. If a being is infinite, it will never, in fact should not expect it to make TOTAL sense to you. If humans are finite in the mind, we can never understand an infinite being.

U said: Point is that I find that a personal God is logically impossible.

Not until you are serious about it. I found that a personal surrender to God is benefiting to me and those around me since it has made me a much better person than before. And no, it is not true that you will have to surrender your brain and logic. The guys who wrote apologetics books have a lot of brain, HIGH IQ, & and tons of logic , at the same time they believe in God's existence. It may sound absurd to you at first but an very intelligent Manichean man, Augustine, once found it absurd as well and found it really stupid.
He decided to prove Catholics wrong by listening to their sermons. But he eventually had to acknowledge theexistence of God not just because of their learning but also because they were kind and tolerable of him. Eventually he saw that it was intellectually unassailable and became one of the Best Church Doctors.

U said: Christians can’t even get all of their stories straight; some believe in the trinity, hell, and some don’t.

Please know that there are in fact different sects of Christianity and they may have different beliefs. Muslims also have sects as well that believe in different things. So do other religions. Im Christian but belong to the Roman Catholic religion.

U said: Am I suppose to respect your beliefs when you tell me if I don't I will burn in hell for the rest of time?

Respect people's beliefs. That is why there is freedom of religion. Let's say that for example, you antagonize people bec. they have other religions, well that is wrong, unless they are doing something that is morally incorrect. If you persecute people then you are likely to go to Hell.

In the end you are judged by the consequences of your actions.

Yes, it's tough to understand.
I've been in your position before, doubting that God exists.
But I've learned that, sometimes, logic doesn't really matter. Iknow that sounds really dumb...but there is no other way of putting it. I know with all of my heart that there is a God out there, and that God is loving and caring and all-knowing. Now, this is something you will never figure out if you don't let go of the logic and just roll with it. When "new" christians first start out, their minds are filled with doubt and worry. As their christian "lives" progress they experiencence blessings and trials. Through these trials your faith and belief in God grows.
As far as the Hell/Trinity thing, every branch of christianity is different, But there is a God, Son and Spirit and ther is a heaven and a hell. So I challenge you, spend one week trying to apply God's word to your life, see if you feel any different. What do you have to lose?

Its all right there in Scripture! Either you have the faith to believe and get saved or you dont! Perhaps the reason why God is not very real to you is because you lack faith for him to do anything significant in your life?

Believing in miracles is very far from surrendering your brain. Some of the finest thinkers and teachers I have ever met were at my Bible college!

You should believe God because that isnt being gullible, its having faith and love for him.

Disorganization and fragmentation is a part of every religion. Does that really disprove its message. Are people perfect in this life after they accept Christ? So why do apply those standards to just Christs church and not the rest? Besides the people of strong faith and truth know exactly what theyre talking about! Perhaps youve just been around some inferior churches and/or believers?

I dont think you respect or disrespect God based on what others believe. I would encourage you to have your OWN relationship with God in prayer and in faith and he will guide you!

I feel that there must be some sort of checks and balance system on our society . Imagine that no one had reason to believe there was a "God". No heaven or hell. It would be total chaos. Most people would kill at the drop of a hat. They don't so much fear going to prison, or the death penalty being imposed upon them. It is the simple belief that they will go to hell and burn forever. The rational God fearing man, would much rather take his chances at heading to the pearly gates, hoping for a chance to live in eternal peace and happiness. Honestly, what keeps you from stealing your neighbors car, raping your neighbors children. It is the very thought that you will pay the ultimate price someday for your actions. So you people that say there is no God of some sort are totally denying, that there is someone more powerful than ourselves. Just as you believe there is no"God", do you believe there is no Devil, Satan or lucifer, what ever you choose to call that evil spirit. What is that you are afraid of... Do you think that these mass muderers believe in God, or the devil and don't mind carrying out his evil deeds. Seriously think about it...You must believe in something or you would meet out your very own brand of justice evryday..... you would take what you want. Kill and mame anyone that so much as looked at you wrong, on one of those mornings you woke up one the wrong side of the bed... So you tell me...Exactly what do you believe in?
May God Bless you' Kevin

How did the word God come to be? The mere fact that it is talked about especially since time began would give a fairly intelligent person an inclination that He would exist. It is up to the individual to seek out the truth. In fact God draw all life to himself sometimes the person needs to get hit by a mack truck to get it ( figure of speech) often it is very subtle and i am sure you have experienced this in your own life. But I suspect that your pride and ego has made your heart hard to recognize this. There is an objective truth.
The empty tomb of Christ shows that the arguments are not circular but based on a fact of history. But I can understand why you don't want to believe it, since, as Romans 1:18-20 and John 3:19 says, you know it is true but you wish not to believe it so that you can live in your sins.

No. In fact God wants people to serve him with their power of reason. (Romans 12:1) That does not mean that every little detail must fall perfectly into place for you, but enough for you to be certain in your mind and heart that "He is and and that he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him." (Hebrews 11:6)

Also it should not surprise anyone that there are differing beliefs among all those professing to believe in God or practice Christianity. This is nothing new. In Jesus' day there were Sadducees and Pharisees. Both groups practiced the same religion, yet their beliefs differed.(Acts 23:8)

please research more. maybe you will find your answer if you do.

>>"What about the fact that everyone of every religion, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindui claims that their belief is proven and the right one? "<<

well at least Judaism does NOT claim to be exclusively correct. it claims to be A path, it does not claim to be the only correct path.

there is also no eternal hell in Judaism.

to put it rather simply, if you don't see any reaosn to believe in God, then there isn't one for you.

but maybe you should think about what you mean when you say God.

for example I belive in something that I call God, thus I would say that I believe in God.
but when most christians say they belive in God, they are "beliving in" something *entirely* different than I am referring to. I don't believe in what they are referring to, at all.

follow the distinction?

So you think your are a cosmic ACCIDENT.

A product of Serendpitidty.

No paternity.

You are a cosmic orphan.

So why should anyone have respect for you. You're just a piece of meat, like all of us. Nothing special. You have no meaning, no purpose, other than for what a man might have need for and why should he give you any care or consideration.

You are a nothing from nothing, going nowhere special.

It's was your choice, not mine.

Free will.

To acknoweldge anything else, is to believe in something that makes you special.

You should believe in God for the following reasons:
1. There are questions you confront--things you see and wonder about--that there is no other explanation for than that there is a higher being. Some of those questions could be: where you are from, who you really are? You cant see your mind, yet you think; where do people go to when they die? what creates and sustains order in the universe? etc. Science only goes so far...then what?
2. Because rationality and the brain can only take you so far in your quest. You could keep seeking for answers and never know it all. No human being in all of history claims to be all knowing except Jesus and He points to that there is a God
3. If you accept that there are questions beyond the physical and pointers to a supernatural being-whatever you may wish to call it, then you conceed that it is worthwhile and responsible to learnt about him. If the being explains what is otherwise inexplicable, then he probably created it; He probably maintains the balance in the earth; probably regulates order etc.
4. Assume that that being is God (a generic name we all call the being), it is not unthinkable that he requires that we must acknowledge him and live responsible to keep the terms upon which he created us and maintains our universe and the order of human society and nature. Imagine how sad if something that is yours gets lost or someone that you know denies knowing you, or someone that you have loved and cater for denies ever knowing you. It is proper that God be acknowledged and believed.

Let us then explore your rationality and how stupid to your mind it is to believe in God if there is no proof.
1. Your unbelief is not an independent, rationally thought out, intelligent, self-made decision you think it is. For one, it is easier, more worldly acceptable, hype thing, not to believe in God. In other words, those who claim faith in God do the more difficult thing. They are socially ostracised; they cant hang-out with the guys/gals, they cant live the way they want: smoke weed, party hard, do drugs etc. like other people. Spare those christians a thought. The only reason they give up all the fun is because they believe. I think that is more intelligent that being carried away and living like our natural inclinations dictates: if I want a ****/drink/drug/anything..get it.
2. The christian God is ethical and moralistic. He does not say you should kill, have out of marriage sex, do drugs etc. and do whatever you please. On the contrary, he say live modestly, lovingly, happily. Which will you rather have. A godless world ruled by human passions, of competing selfishness, only mildly mitigated 'freedoms' (which are not really free) or a (hypothetical) world in which there is love, people watching out for one another, care, peace with one another, etc.
3. God offers a hope for the future and the reason for living. The knowledge that there is a heaven, empowers those christians to live responsible lives, worshiping God. Christians also have a very inclusive answer to those questions agitating your mind, which you conviniently shrug away as being unanswerable. It is comforting to know that one is loved by the higher being, in whom there is no divorce, disappointment or injury.

The only reason why christians share their faith with you (disturb you) is because, they have found a pearl and they want you to share in it. Thats love. They have not asked you to steal, kill, destroy. Rather, they ask you to love your wife more, take care of your children more, be responsible citizen, hate none. Why then do we hate them so? Why do we think it is disturbance when we do not think the same of those who invite us to spend our hardearned cash on late nightouts, drugs, sex etc.?

I cant speak for other religions. But test each on their claim and determine which is right.

I could go on and on. To the extent that there are questions in your heart that there is no human answer for, then, there must be a superhuman explanation--Let call that God. He deserves that we acknowledge him.
\Best wishes in your search
