Because history has shown that when government promotes religion both suffer. Religions generally insist that their dogma is the only one that is correct and often discriminate against any religion that is different, and this discrimination coupled with the power of the state is a terrible combination.
So which religion would you prefer the government to promote? Judaism? Hinduism? Paganism? Buddhism? Should we have a Catholic nation that answers to the Pope? What about Islam?

Why would you even ask that? The US is a secular society and was founded on that mostly. The Quakers left England because of discrimination, now you want to bring that discrimination back. You can quote all the Bible versus you want, it won't change anything. What if we decided to put Scientology in the Constitution to make that out national religion? Would you like that? NO. So let's stay secular and allow everyone to practice as they wish.

Because by God.. this country was founded on religious freedom.. people can come here to practice any religion they desire. If the government integrates a religion it can prohibit others from practicing what they desire if they have to follow rules that integrate a certain religion. I am a God fearing citizen that pays taxes but I don't want my government telling me that if I want to cuss and sodomize that it's illegal because God said it's wrong. I don't feel that they have that right and this is why religion should not be a part of the government. I think the American government is smart for not wanting to involve religion.

Well, I don't get your reference but I am not a scholar of the bible. I do think it is an interesting theory of history though.
Religion has no place in Government. Government is supposed to do the business of "we, the people".. Religion is for the home and church.
Besides, which religion would it be in our diverse nation? Buddhism? Jewish? Muslim? Hindu? Shintu? Native American? Even if you responded christianity, which one? Catholic? Lutheran? Episcopalian? Baptist? If Baptist, which one? Southern? Northern? If Evangelical, which one? Or maybe Mormon?
Get the point?

The secular government shouldn't care one way or the other. The government can not prohibit the establishment of any religion and cannot establish a national religion. Otherwise there really is no official stand and shouldn't be.

The people who founded this country had lived under Kings & were forced to believe in the religion of the King. Many of them did not believe in being forced to belong to a relilgion without choice. They decided to not allow that to happen in this country. Seperation of Church & State. Meaning no government shall foist a religion on the people, freedom of choice of religion. They put their lives on the line for this freedom, & all of the freedoms we have today. Both of my parents ancestors left Scotland & came to America because they would not give up their religion for the religion of Henry the 8th & Queen Elizabeth I.

As you already kno....prayer was takin out of all schools and systems. Government wantts nothin to do with it because it interfears with other people's beliefs. But there are laws that protect that right. IF u plan on doing somethin you could try but be aware of the consequences......because people will try to dimish you. with want you do or say.
