Alchohol 120 software has the ability to create virtual DVD players on your computer and load images of those DVd's onto you machine - when you goto that drive with mdeia centre it thinks there is a dvd and trys to play it - you will need some sort of software that will allow you to copy your copyrighted dvd though - so all is not easy - also remember that 300dvd's will consume aprox 2400gb of hdd space - not really feasible on an the average pc.
might be easier to just load dvd when you need then

If it's a home built system you most likely have a DMR related issue-Hollywood won't let you rip your DVD's to your hard drive.

There are a ton of options, but without knowing what kind of system you built or software you use, I'd be guessing. So, update your question with that if you will.

What I personally have is a P4-3Ghz w/ 1MB DDR2 ram and 1.4 Terabytes total storage. I use Divx/Xvid in Windows XP MCE to play the files. Now ripping them is a different story... I use Intervideo DVD WinDVD Creator to author TV shows I record to a DVD format, the rip the DVD files to my hard drive using Intervideos' DVD Creator 4. If I want to rip a DVD I purchase (not really legal but allowable under the fair-use clause) you need to break the security software, so go to SlySoft.com & get AnyDVD (which works with the Intervideo software).

Nero will do it for you, but you need DVD 43 with to decode it

you might be better off with a 400 DVD changer they rock
