My 95 year old client had stomach pain during the night and some nausea. Her son believes it is her gallbladder....the client's mother had a problem with her gallbladder also. He thought she should avoid peanuts and cocunut. I did some research and found that coconut is actually good for this condition. I couldn't find much information on foods related to this though so I am asking you.

First your client should be evaluated for gallstones to make sure. Usually avoiding a high intake of fat and greasy foods as well as green leafy vegetables will ease gallbladder symptoms. I hope this helps. Please see that your client sees a doctor. Also, you might want to consider gastric reflux since the pain and nausea are occurring at night. You can elevate the head of the bed about six inches to keep the acid in the stomach and not in the esophagus. Gastric reflux can cause nausea and pain when laying flat. Good Luck.

I'm a nurse. Actually fatty, greasy, spicy foods should be avoided. With gallbladder problems the pain can become unbearable. Ibuprofen or Tylenol works well for the pain. It could be gallstones too. Take care and I hope this helps you.

Hmmmm, asking us instead of her Dr! How professional can you get? I don't know what kind of licensure is allowing you to take care of this client but you are ready to lose it. Two of my kids and a sister are RNs. You are in way over your head. Get off the damn computer and call someone who can help this poor old lady before you kill her.

Anything with a high fat content, per my doctor, will cause pain when you have gallbladder problems. If she's having attacks she should avoid: Eggs, pork, onion, fowl, milk, coffee, citrus, corn, beans, nuts, in that order.

fatty foods and those that are high in cholesterol because: the bile (made by the liver and released by the gall bladder) is the one who digests fats, if theres an obstruction in bile flow, or any gall bladder disease, people shouldnt eat fatty foods because it will cause them to have abdominal pains, nausea and vomiting..
