The importance of honesty is it is the foundation of trust. You cannot have trust with someone who is not honest (with you, themself or others) and therefore cannot build a real relationship. If you attempt a relationship with someone who is not honest you are really just hanging out with a stranger and lying to yourself.

The importance of honesty in my life? Truthfully, there are few things more important to me other than relationships with people and God. Without honesty, we can't trust each other. Without the assurance that my fiance is honest with me, I could doubt him and think he is cheating on me. Without honesty, I would wonder if my parents are really my parents. Without honesty, I would wonder if all of these things I am learning in school are really true or if I am spending a lot of money to be taught a bunch of lies. Without honesty, I would doubt God and wonder if He really will keep the promises He spells out in the Bible. Without honesty, I don't know what I would do. I like being able to trust and know that my fiance has never cheated on me. I like being able to trust that my parents are my parents. I like being able to trust that I am not learning a bunch of lies. I like being able to trust in a God whom I know would never lie to me.
Dishonesty is devastating to all involved and secrets always come out (whether directly or indirectly by eating at the secret-keepers conscious).
