Probably Australia, the world is starting to catch on but hasn't totally realised it yet. I'm not sure if our best wines can match it with other countries (maybe they can I just can't afford them) but our standard $8-$20 wines are definitely the best in the world.
For some reason Jacob's Creek is mass exported, it's a little bit like Foster's Lager - Aussies don't like it but it has become the symbol of the industry. If you have tried Jacob's Creek and didn't rate it try another Aussie wine, honestly they're great value.

Strictly a matter of opinion of course. Ask a Frenchman,an Australian, an Italian and a Californian and you'll get 4 different answers. There are great wines from many countries. Keep an open mind and explore all of them. There are many different styles and flavors of red wine that suit different meals and occasions. Enjoy them all!!!

Widely acknowledged as the best wines in the world are French wines. Anyone who disagrees is a new world snob.
