yesterday i had extremely bad heart burn hafter eating 3 meat balls. it was so bad that i felt like i migh through up. i have never had heart burn that bad before. now it is hard to swallow anything. the pain is not in my throat but more like in my chest down to my stomach. i have not been able to get any food down due to the pain. can heart burn cause that much damage after one episode to cause this much pain?? i have taken anti acids, tum, malox, nothing soothes it. if anyone else has had this happen to them what did you do? or could this possibly be something other then a bad after effect of heart burn??

You should not have this much problem from heartburn after eating one spicy meal yesterday.
You could have food poisoning or something else going on.
If it continues, call or see your doctor asap.
If it was heartburn, an antacid should have worked by now.

Please chew your food well minmum 20-50 times per bite. We have gotten too rushed to maintain proper digestion as a habit.

Other useful info - Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

I've been dealing with heart burn for many years. Your symptoms are significant enough to have it checked out. It is probably easily treatable and nothing to be overly convened about. Self medicating is OK up to a point but you are beyond that since the standard remedies are obviously not working. Why continue to be so miserable when the answer is likely a quick MD visit away. Even an outpatient clinic will do. Do yourself a favor and check it out. The worrying itself can aggravate the condition.

you need to stop eating those types of foods that cause heart burn and switch to bland and plain water for a couple of days

if antacids aren't helping any more, then stop taking them.

FYI anything with acid or fat can cause a heart burn. (especially OJ and fatty meats, also tomato seeds tend to lead to heart burn for a lot of people)

it can be dangerous: serious heart burn can build up so high that it can actually burn your esophagus, (but in my opinion if this is the first time that it has been this bad for you then i doubt that will happen to you at this point in time).

Never drink liquids after a meal, only take really tiny sips (if you absolutely have to have something to drink afterwords). Always try to drink a full glass of water before your meal, to avoid thirst after your meal. (this REALLY helps a lot)

milk has calcium, calcium is good for heart burn too.

caffeine and nicotine can exaggerate your heart burn, so stop doing this right away.

Always try to prevent your heart burn before it starts (preferably before you even eat) because it is very hard to stop heart burn once it has started.

You need to be seen by a doctor. You didn't mention your age and age does play a factor for other problems. Has the pain subsided at all? Are you still nauseated? If these are still present see a doctor at once. If they have subsided, you could try some OTC Prilosec. You take it once a day, but it's best to be evaluated to make sure what's going on.

That is really weird. I have been experiencing te same thing all day. My husband says it is just heart burn or acid reflux, but I have had zero relief all day. I have taken antacids all day. If I am not feeling better tomorrow, I'm going to the doc in the box.

I had that same problem and turns out it is acid reflux. You may want to do a search online about it, I was having the same thing and felt like I was having a small stroke, but that is what it is. You can see your doctor or even get over the counter medications on it.
