Try communication rather than just asking. Find out exactly why she doesn't want you to have a kitty. That will give you a clue as to why it didn't "work out" before. Could be the litter box wasn't changed. Could be the cats weren't fed or given clean water regularly. Could be the cats weren't spayed or neutered. Could be they were allowed outside and brought in fleas or perhaps unwanted kittens as an aftermath. Lots of reasons. A cat is normally a low-maintenance fellow traveler on planet Earth. They do fine as long as you are gentle with them, keep the box clean, feed and water and give them space and love. It's also a good idea to keep them indoors. We have three. If they want to go outside it is with a harness (no collar) and leash. Of course, right now with the weather the way it is here in Northern Wisconsin, if we let any one of them out, she (all girls) would be buried in a snow drift in nothing flat, so that is out of the question. I have one on my lap as I write this. Except for some fur on my keyboard, we are both pretty happy. Oh, did I mention, brush them? That will help eliminate hairballs and fur on the keyboard and every other place you don't want fur. Gotta go and brush this cat!!

She will know that you are responsible and hey you never know you might even learn to love to keep and watch fish! Good luck sweety! *guppylover*

Save money for vet visits, cat toys, litter box, litter, etc. Probably not all of those things, but enough to let her know you're serious and this isn't just a phase.

If I were you, I'd start off with something smaller to show you're responsible. Ask her if you could have a goldfish or some other sort of fish. Show her you can take care of it and tend to it properly.

What I think you should do is write her a businesslike, sophisticated letter stating why you should be allowed to own a cat.
