This guy that I am dating now (not boyfriend yet) is extremely quiet and aloof most of the time. But actually he is just shy. What is bothering me is he is extremely friendly to this girl in school. He actually goes up to talk to her and runs after her to chat when he sees her in front of him. He laughs easily with her. Sometimes they behave like close friends or more the way they talk to each other. This is really odd because he DOES NOT behave this way with any other person, even I sometimes.

Don't tell me to ask him about her. I can't at this stage without looking possessive and jealous.

Do you think they are more than friends? or am I paranoid?
they used to be in the same class last year

Hmm. I'm sorry, but it does sound like something's going on. Why don't you ask him, or ask a friend to watch them and give you an opinion?

"just shy, " may be an improper characterization.

Some people, called introverts, just don't make conversation easily, and are content sometimes to just watch and listen. Nothing wrong with that, except everyone thinks they shouldn't be that way.

I used to love dating a "chatty Cathy," because I never had the burden of creating conversation, but they usually are either domineering, or just have a lot of problems to talk about.

If he's friendly to this one, it's probably because they have a mutual interest, or a close history, and it's easier to talk around someone with a common frame of reference.

They may be just friends, because its easier to be spontaneous around someone who will never be a gf.

About laughing, introverts and extroverts have different sense of humor. The things that make them laugh might just be dry humor that's not funny to you.

Don't worry about competing her.

well they prolly became good mates last year, dont worry about it, your the one dating him. open up to him and hopefully he will open up to you. make him feel comfortable around you by paying attention to him and giving him space when he needs it. but from the sounds of things you want to know whats going on so talk to him but dont pressure him, lol i dont really have a straightforward answer for you sorry.
