I went to a spa for a facial a few months ago and the facial room was this beautiful warm deep eggplant. Bedding was ivory/cream with a really textured (nubby) ivory blanket... Wall decorations were silver, silver leaf and espresso/black. It was elegant, cozy and relaxing. I made my 13 yo daughter come in and take a look and she loved it. We're planning on doing her room in a similar style in the next 6 months. All her friends have crazy tween rooms with bright greens oranges fushias .. ok... but kind of young. I wanted her room to be an hip, elegant room for her and her friends to hang out... that she would not grow out of as she approaches 16. This scheme would really work well with any medimp-deep sage, gold, pumpkin or any of the spa-ish blues/green/teal.. however I think the purple appeals to the younger set. I found some cool moroccan print swag valances with beads at Walmart that would be elegant that are going to add a little sparkle... Good luck.

Use your daughter's favorite color as your "inspiration". Consider things like peel off cork squares on the back of her bedroom door for a bulletin board that she can change out year after year, etc. Why not shop resale shops together and make plans on how to refinish or paint the pieces you find?
Have your daughter gather photos from magazines of things she likes ( bedding, a lamp, a poster, carpetting, etc.) and then cost it out and decide what can happen, what you can get creative and make, and what can't happen. It's all a part of growing up...

look at Pottery Barn Teen online or request the catalog. PB is expensive but people sell it cheaper on Ebay and Target sells a lot of PB looking stuff for less. You can use the PB pics to choose wall color, etc.
For that matter, Target sells a lot of stylish looking things for rooms.

Find the paint color you like and instead of buying curtains, buy material you like and make the curtains. You can also use the material to cover pillows and other things like, buy a cheap cork board and cover it with the material.
My daughters room is, one wall orange, the other three are yellow with a fuscha diagonal stripe. Her accent colors are black and black and white checks. Her curtains are hand made black and white checks, and her outlets/switch covers are covered with black and white check contact paper as is the top of her nightstand.

Black and white! Think old Hollywood, zebra stripes, black and white photographs, white feather boas. You can paint old furniture glossy white for very low cost. Throw in a splash of red or lime with some big pillows. Have fun!

At 13 we have preferences......and favorites......change
is part of that age....So they should have imput....
I'd suggest basic neutral colorthat can be accented with
fads and easily changed justas they will be changing regularly with development.
It is move economical to just change accessories change with with there whim.
