I really want to be in the marines but I'm not sure what women do. First is there a marine college like there is for the coast guard or do you go to the marines after college? Please just give me all the info you have. Thanks.

First of all, women are still restricted by federal law from serving in direct combat positions. However, due to today's nature of the armed services, many women based in logistical outfits are seeing combat action.

Also, this doesn't stop you from being a pilot, etc. Pretty much, you can't do special forces type job or infantry, but you can do jobs such as communications, etc.

Anyway, Marines that are joining as officers either go to OCS (Officer's Candidate School) then the Basic School, after college, or you can go to either the US Naval Academy or a Naval ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) affiliated school. After the US Naval Academy or NROTC, you will attend the Basic School to learn how to be a Marine Officer.

All Marines receive the same training, but separately. All positions are available, to women, except direct combat, MOSs.
Air-wing is exempt, women can be combat pilots.
You can attend college , while on active duty.
Good choice. Today's Woman Marine is more of a Marine than ever before.
I believe, today you can put your hair in a bun or something, whereas WMs in my day had short cuts.
My son is also a Marine 1991-1994 Persian Gulf
Semper Fi..!!!

You put your hair up in a bun or braid. I was an air traffic controller in the Marines. There are plenty of jobs available for women. If you go to the Marines after college you can go in as an officer. If you go out of high school you can take the college courses at the college of your choice and the Marine Corps will reimburse you tuition. So if you go out of HS you would not be an officer but if you go to college while in you can become an officer. Good luck.

I don't know if there's a Marine College like the Air Force Academy, but if you want a military college you could try The Citadel. A girl can do a lot of stuff in the Marines, barring actual combat roles. But you can do combat support. You won't have to cut your hair, as long as you can keep it clean and neat, off your collar and out of your face. Good luck!

There are a lot of non-combat specialties for women. My son is an aircraft mechanic for the Osprey. He works with women on the project at New River Marine Base in NC. Check with a recruiter, you will get a long list of specialties. The military academy for the Marines is the US Naval Academy as the Marines are part of the Navy.

First there is no Marine college. If you want to go to a military academy, you go to the naval academy. You can also go to a college and do a marine ROTC while in college. You will do anything that the men do except special ops or front lines. Oh, you don't have to cut your hair. They navy will make you, but i think that is only for enlisted.

Marines go to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Nowadays women can do pretty much everything men can do except be in a combat profession like infantry or cavalry. I'm not sure if there are female pilots in the marines. There are in other branches, though.

First off, they don't take girls, only women.

If you enlist, you will go to Boot Camp at Parris Island, SC and you will think you have died and gone to hell. After they are through turning you into a Marine, they will do what they want with you - and you will obey.

I speak from experience....I am a Marine veteran. It was four of the best and worst years of my life..Semper Fi!

You will be treated just like everyone else. You will be expected to be on time, put forth the effort, and work extra hard like the men. You will not be cut any slack just because you are a girl. More than likely you will not have to have your hair cut, as long as you wear it up in a bun. It needs to be completely out of your face, and you will not have time to make your hair pretty or wear make-up. I hope this helps and best of luck.

you can join the marines during college. There's certain jobs women can't do and one of them is combat arms.
