I don't know what kind of frosting are you looking for , I have some options for you:
Frosting:
1/2 cup (1 stick butter)
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/3 cup heavy cream, or more if necessary
1 (16-ounce) box confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat and stir in brown sugar and cream. Bring to a boil, then transfer to a mixing bowl. Add confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Beat with a handheld electric mixer until it reaches a spreading consistency. At this time it may be necessary to add a tablespoon of heavy cream, or more, if frosting gets too thick. Just be sure to add cream in small amounts because you can always "add to," but you can't take away.
Chocolate Frosting:
1 pound semi-sweet chocolate, roughly chopped
1 1/2 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup dark corn syrup, plus more to taste
(if you are making a small cake, everything can cut down in half)
Cream Cheese Frosting:
1/4 cup (2 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
2 teaspoons pure maple syrup or honey
Caramel Frosting
8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup whole milk
2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Homemade frosting is the best.
For a large sized cake (9 x 13, or double layer) I make this recipe:
Butter cream Frosting
1 to 1/2 cubes butter room temp.
1 Tsp vanilla extract
1 16 oz. bag of powdered sugar
Cream butter and vanilla together until "light" texture and well mixed. Add p. sugar 1 cup at a time until thick.(may not need whole bag) Also, if you want chocolate butter cream, just add 1/2 C unsweetened cocoa. Enjoy!
Tip: in a pinch and need a sweet fix?!? Make above frosting with chocolate, and spread on top of graham cracker, and top with another, yummo, my kids love it!

Mix powdered sugar with a little water, real butter that is softened and a teaspoon of vanilla for the simplest icing--that's just vanilla icing for cakes and cupcakes.
