why is it that a black females use hair softening substences?

and u know what lately a lot of guys are using it like they must be sooo metrosexual imagine if ur boyfreind spends more time in the bath than u then he get to the point where he starts using ur make up then ur lip gloss then i wouldnt be suprised if he starts wearing ur undies like oh my god has the world gone mad
im so happy we have no of that crap in somalia coz most of us have straight hair any way

what does blk women have to do with this situation? any who, Since I am black, and I've read most of the answers already posted...some right and some so wrong.
I..and many other black females perm/relax our hair to make it straight just like white females use perms to get a curly effect. Not all blk females perm/relax their hair and most blk men just cut their hair, its a very low percentage of those that perm/relax their hair. but perming makes our hair more manageable

Have you ever know african-americans? It's not just females, but males that struggle with their hair. It is course and difficult to manage. They use straiteners to manage it, just like caucausians male and females do if their hair is too waivey.

All black women do not choose to use softeners;however when they do use it they use it with the same intentions that other nationalities use styling gel,hair color and frizz control..for cosmetic purposes.Some questions are too stupid to ask..

it's usually to make the hair easier to take care of....you didn't see my when I was little....I hated getting my hair washed and having it combed...I'd scream kick and cry
it's either cut all your hair off....or soften the texture
b/c my hair would stress me out when i was little...I was soo tempted to cut it

because their hair is naturally curly, and in order for them to change their hairstyle they have to soften it in order to straighten it and style it
