"Te amo" is a very fancy way of saying, "I LOVE YOU" to someone you know closely. However, "Te quiero" is much more popular. It's literally translation is, "I want you," but it means, "I love you." Again, you'll here this option more.

For example:

Nos queremos --> We love each other
