I had my permit for 2 years and it expired and i was wondering if i can take the test for a drivers liscense if im 18 without it in illinois.Also if i had to get a new permit would i have to have it for 3 months before i could take the test because i had 1 for 2 years until it expired.Thank you.

i just got my license in august 06 and i am 27. i had my permit for about 10 years. you have to have that before you can try to get your license.

Everyone has to have a permit before than they can get a driver license....and hold the permit for a period of time. Yours expired, so now you will have to start all over again. Sorry.

I don't think you need it...you can just take your ID and appropriate forms to the testing center and teke the written and driving test. I'm from PA...that's how it is here. If you do gert a permit and you are 18, you can take the test anytime..that day if you want.

Your have to have your primitt first and then go for your driver's L. But it's best to try for your L's before your temps runs out as in expires.
