One way to find out is to call him. You don't want to assume anything before hearing him out. You can make a determination after you heard the fact.

Just don't let it bother you. He might not want you to think he is too eager. Just don't break your neck to call him when you say you will either. I'm sure he'll probably call but when he does, don't act like it bothers you in the least.
