What does Mais L'ombe mean? I was looking at the lyrics for Crier La Vie (Slipping Away) - Moby, and just assumed Mais L'ombe meant "So Long".. but then looked it up and it translated to "But the shade"

"l"ombe" is not a French word as far as I can tell. "l'ombre" is "shadow" and "mais l'ombre..." seems to be quotation from Proust, in which women are the shadows of girls.

Salut..but that is informal, for friends. It's said for both hello and goodbye.
There are also a number of ways to say till next time and the like, but I assume you meant goodbye.

Some may hate it but "bye" is now pretty universal, may even be a little chic.
