I have been thinking a lot lately about getting married, all I know it will be within 5 or 6 years and although it may be a long ways away a thought came across me. I am going to need a gong for the father daughter dance that relates to a person who is like a fater where my real dad passed away. I don't want to have to think about it in the future wher it hurts to much so if anyone knows any songs that may reflect this please let me know thanks!

I think "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong is a perfect song for a father/daughter dance. It doesn't actually mention being a father so it will work just as well for someone who is like a father, a step-father, close friend, birth father, adoptive father or anyone else. It is a beautiful song.

Brad Paisley's "He Didn't HaveTo Be"

When a single mom goes out on a date with somebody new
It always winds up feeling more like a job interview
My momma used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone
Who wouldn't find out about me and then turn around and run

I met the man I call my dad when I was five years old
He took my mom out to a movie and for once I got to go
A few months later I remember lying there in bed
I overheard him pop the question and prayed that she'd say yes

And then all of a sudden
Oh, it seemed so strange to me
How we went from something's missing
To a family
Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

I met the girl that's now my wife about three years ago
We had the perfect marriage but we wanted somethin' more
Now here I stand surrounded by our family and friends
Crowded 'round the nursery window as they bring the baby in

And now all of a sudden
It seemed so strange to me
How we've gone from something's missing
To a family
Lookin' through the glass I think about the man
That's standin' next to me
And I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

Yeah, I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Because he didn't have to be
You know he didn't have to be

There is a Brad Paisley song called He didn't need to be. A song he wrote for his step father saying that he was a father he didn't need to be.
Sometimes it helps. Or even like others have said try Butterfly Kisses or even Daddys Hands by Holly Dunn

Well Heartland sings a song called " I loved her first " it talks about a father giving his daughter away at a marriage ceremony. It also sings about that the guy should treat her right because he loved her first. This is the perfect song for you and your father to dance to at your wedding. It is a country song, therefore it will be slow and perfect for some great pictures of you and him, I think you and him both will absolutely love this song for this special occasion.Just remember this is your day, but it's also just as special to him also.

Changes by Kelly and Ozzy Osbourne. I know you hear the name and cringe maybe but it really is a beautiful song for a father daughter dance.
