This is a normal, and common, behavior for many dogs. The term for it is Coprophagia (sounds better than poop-eater). Usually it's not any type of nutritional imbalance. Mother dogs eat their own feces, and the feces of their young, as a defense mechanism against potential predators. Feces, obviously, produce an odor that can be like a neon sign above a dog's den, basically screaming out "Victims Here" to any nearby predators. Also, some dogs see feces as very similar to the first solid food they ever received from their mothers. Regurgitated, soft, warm food. If it's other dogs' feces that he is eating, you can only keep him on a tighter leash and avoid it. If he's eating his own feces, however, there are some ways around it (besides constantly scooping it up immediately!).
Putting some meat tenderizer (or a teaspoon of spinach or pineapple) in your dog's food will make his feces taste less appealing. Also, sprinkling some tabasco sauce on the feces might deter him. There is also a product sold by many vets and in many pet retail stores called Deter that is supposed to help stop this behavior.
Good luck!

While dog poop smells awful to us, it smells like food to a dog. If it is eating poop from another dog you have, there are pills that you can get that make the poop smell unappetizing and you give this to the dog that is providing the poop so your dog won't want to eat it. If you have no control over what dog's poo he is partaking of, you will have to accept that you have a poopeater and get him some breath freshener. Don't feel bad, my dog likes to munch on the poo too.

LOL, my golden is too. I think some dogs are just poop eaters! When Lily had her puppies and was cleaning up the "waste" everyone keep telling me "oh, they stop that real soon, then you'll have a mess" she never stopped (there all gone now). I think she just LIKES poop!

LOL My pits dig up cat poop and eat it, my vet says its normal and they do it because they are getting extra vitamins and minerals from the poo they eat. So its actually healthy.

Real easy answer. It is natural, BUT, all you have to do is feed your dog 1 Cert, yes the breath mint, a night and she will stop eating your own. Other pets, feed it to them to and it will stop eating theres. Gauranteed to work.
