What idiot thumb downed all the people who suggested you adopt a puppy from the pound or a shelter? You didn't specify any particularers. Unless you have specific needs or a love a of a special breed, you should adopt a shelter pup.. Why support puppy mills or irresponsible money grubbers when it simply is not necessary to get a good family pet?
If you want something in particular , say so.
I'm angry here, not at the asker, but at the thumb downer, who has a right to an opinion of course, but should have the common courtesy to come forward and explain.

If you adopt you only have to pay a very small licensing fee, almost always under $75. You also get them spayed and neutered for free, and they'll already have all thier shots! All of my pound puppies have been wonderful dogs, and in fact, the 2 dogs I got from a breeder were much more sickly and had more behavioral problems than the pups from the pound. Most shelters will let you put your name on a list and they will call you when they get puppies in (they obviously don't always have puppies).

I would look at the Pound, and it isn't free but the adoption fees are cheap. They usually have alot to choose from, unless you're looking for a purebred/registered dog.

Why don't you visit a local SPCA? You will find a free loyal companion and save a life at the same time. Think of all the abandoned and abused dogs out there waiting for a Savior. Please be that Savior.
