Checkout the various websites, BestBuy, Circuit City, etc. and see what their payment options are.

Newegg accepts personal checks among it's payment options. I purchased Windows XP from them and saved about a hundred dollars.

Download "Open Office" from Sun microsystems. It's free and compatible with MS Office. It even has an app. like Powerpoint called"Impress". There are versions for all OSs. IT'S FREE.
Otherwise, try craigslist.
